Windows 7 and desktop mail program

I see that more and more people here are gradually changing to or adding Windows 7. I'd be interested to know what you are doing about e-mail on Windows 7. I have several web based e-mail accounts, but I prefer having my e-mail download to a desktop program. I tried the Windows Live Mail, which is all that is available on Windows 7, and I do not like it at all. So I started searching for an alternative. I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird, and I think I am going to like it since it is similar to Outlook Express in many ways, but probably more secure.

I'd be interested in knowing what others are using and your opinions of Windows Live Mail vs other desktop programs.

I only use webmail these days but still would use thunderbird if I needed that type of application I used it for years and liked it.
I have heard spicebird is good but it is still in beta

I have Thunderbird on multiple XP machines and loaded it last night on a Windows 7 Start, the low-end version on some Netbooks. The Mozilla site indicated it was compatible with Windows 7, so I down loaded it. I have not yet put it on-line. Thunderbird supports full email download.

If she wants a desktop program, it will depend on the operating system she has. If XP, then she can use Outlook Express and configure her Yahoo, Gmail, or whatever to download into that without going to the web site. If she has Windows 7, MS has a program called Windows Live Mail which she must install on her computer. Again, her mail can be configured to download to her desktop program. And there's Thunderbird which has been mentioned.

Access your comcast email account using a browser to their website and it should work fine. After that, you can figure out what's not working with your configuration.

Just goes to show that the bigger the organization is the worse the customer care. I am very angry that the real problem was not addressed when I was talking with AT&T. I tried to find an email address to voice my opinion and there isn't one to be found at AT&T's website and the maze you have to go through on the phone is ridiculous. If I hadn't thought of Googling the problem by including the search term "Yahoo" I would still be in the dark about it. And not a word has been issued on the news about the problem and there had to be millions affected by it.

Raven, I read about Spicebird on Kim Komando's site and downloaded the setup file to a flash drive using my desktop computer. When I went to install on the Windows 7 machine, it would not install, indicating I had a corrupt download. So I just downloaded Thunderbird directly and used it a good part of today. I haven't quite figured out everything about it, but it is working for me and all three of my web mail programs are working with it. I guess I'll look for a good tutorial and make sure I have everything set up correctly. I think there are some add ons available, too.

It certainly beats Windows Live Mail.

yes there are add ons for it just like for firefox and also themes, I have seen some good tutorials for it too.

Never could get into Thunderbird and hear you about offered email program supplied by Win7. I too have a Yahoo and Hotmail account for online business but wanted something decent that I liked for my ISP account. Win Mail in Vista wasnt bad. Anyway, I happened to have a copy of MSOffice 2003 around and downloaded it and am now able to use Outlook

Outlook is okay for those satisfied with plain text, but I like HTML and ability to insert pictures, gifs, etc. rather than just attach. I'm not a business user, so Outlook does not appeal to me at all. I was tempted to try Win Mail, but thought I'd give Thunderbird a try. Several things about it I do not like too much, but we'll see. I might later give Win Mail a try.

Woah grandms you can indeed embed or insert pictures in Outlook. What I am unable to do is insert a sound wave (for birthday or similar events).

For HTML click Options at the top then the HTML tab about 5 places in from the left and second down

To insert in a new message click in the body area of the new email, click the Insert tab, click Picture and browse to your choice.

Owbist, I stand corrected. But I would need some version of Office to get Outlook wouldn't I? I have no need for Office since Works meets all my needs. Thanks for correcting me----no music in my e-mails, hmmmmm.

Outlook email changed to Windows mail and was than updated
to Windows Live Mail. If I remember right you can copy and
paste a picture on the face of Windows Live Mail. It's better
than Outlook Express. Their is also a Windows Hotmail.
AOL still has the best email and a better way to save emails but only as long as you keep AOL.

I only use incredimail free, have since it came out, and luv it! has many, many nice features others do not offer, great for creative people.
