Just goes to show that even the experienced computer geek can come into contact with a possible invasion! This virus took on the format of the Firefox Browser making it appear legitimate, which would entice the unsuspecting computer owner to think they must have to click ok, which would actually start the process of infection. The Google link itself is the malicious content. This is proof of how advanced viruses, trojans, etc. has become. Obviously your WOT program did not target this because it was the link, and not the contents within the link. Never click ok or even mouse over a screen such as this. You're better off shutting down through your task manager, and shutting down the computer altogether. Don't even click on the red x. As I push heavily for safe/smart browsing, this is one instance where it is especially needed! Good catch, zep! Thanks for the "heads up"!

I have not seen one yet zep but one of the extremely security knowledgeable guys over on another forum I am on (an MVP) got hit with one. The thing was amazing, still don't know how it got him. He put up a warning like you did for everyone to know this new variant was a bear.
It is amazing how many there are and how more come out daily.
Just to see the number of them look over at siriurzblog, I keep up with it just to know what is happening daily.

Yes indeed if seeing any kind of warning like that the taskmanager is the way to go just kill the browser or hit the shutdown button for the computer, anything else could be an install link imbedded

Going to be much more suspicious in the future. I followed the advice here to go to a good anti-malware site, and Corinne over at LandzDown.com is in the process of helping me with the infection I probably got when I fell for that UPS non-delivery thing.

I get those. I click OK and it pretends to scan and then shows me a horrible list of dreadful social diseases my computer has acquired and offers to sell me virus protection.

It's a scam: I am running Linux and can't get any of the viruses they mention.

Well some of us don't use Linux and need to take precautions.

exactly zep, I use linux daily here and when surfing it is all I use, but I do have windows machines hooked to my network and I do have to consider that because something that was ok in linux might not be ok in windows.
And since the majority here use windows it is essential they know not to click anywhere on any of those popups because the underlying code is an install button.

I think I'll start running the browser in a sandbox environment as was mentioned in another forum I posted that at.

using a sandbox is a safe alternative. I always said if I had any children using a pc they would definitely be sandboxed!
another option would be deep freeze, I know a couple people that put their elderly parents pc set up with deep freeze.
