Did come up with a few thoughts last night as I lay in bed(isn't that when we do our best thinking) but haven't had the time today to actually formulate them here. Nothing major, just some tweaking. Running out again and DH has been gone all down helping his BIL 1 1/2 hours away install a flat screen for the big day tomorrow so I've been the carpool queen!!!! GO GIANTS!!!!

Sorry you got a bozo for a contractor. I have no experience with the type of siding block you want to use. However, I see a couple of potential problems. First, siding is supposed to _hang_ from their mechanical supports (nails). It is not supposed to be nailed tight. Nailing tight can cause the siding _not_ to contract & expand. Screwing a mounting block to the siding and hanging a hose from the siding could, and probably would cause a problem with contraction/expansion. Second, you would have to hit solid support with the screws. In other words, putting screws wouldn't cut it just into the siding. Just get a siding zipper as I mentioned in your other thread, Google it. It's under $10. You will find all sorts of information on YouTube on removing/installing siding. Install a correct mounting block, or you probably will regret it.

Maifleur, I also live in an older area and our storm sewers can't keep up with heavy rainfall. Most homes have had their eavestroughs disconnected from the sanitary sewers. Or flood was August 31st I believe. Streets were flooded. I had 10 inches of water in my basement. Same time the previous year we had the same type of flooding from a bad storm. I guess I am fortunate because my basement is cement and unfinished. No drywall. My washing machine floated in the water. The only reason I had flood and sewer backup is because I had it for a long time and it was grandfather in my new policy because the insurace company was no longer offering it. Originally it was for $20,000 but I had it reduced to $10,000 because I had nothing down the basement but my furnace, washer and dryer and a rental hot water tank. Twice now the charitable group The Good Samaritans came in and sanitized my basement for the price of a prayer. I was so thankful for their help. To help prevent basement flood the Municipality is offering a basement flooding protection subsity and after an inspection I qualified 100 percent for it. I have until the end of January to get the work done. I don't have a sump pump and my back up valve is an older version that does not work so well. Our city also just announced major infrastructure work for the local pumping station and larger storm sewers for the area where I live. Riverside seems to flood more than anywhere else in the city. Every time there is a storm warning I freak out a bit and am always on flood watch even though there is nothing I can do about it at the time. We need rain badly around here, we keep missing the storms but I really want a nice steady rainfall just not a deluge. Basement flooding subsidy
