Have to forward a message to AVAST-need help

I have been getting the same message from AVAST saying it has stopped a Trojan. I went thru this before, checked everything out, contacted them and they took care of it. Now again, checked everything, notified them only this time they want a screenshot of the message. They told me how to do it, but I either need a new keyboard, the key does not work or????
They told me to hold down the alt key and press the prtScn key and it will go to a clipboard. Then hold down ctrl key and press v key etc.
My question is either the key on my computer does not work (dell keyboard, but not dell computer) and where do I find the clipboard to check it out.

To take a screen shot, hold down the Control key
And while holding it down hit the Print Screen key.
Then release both keys.

Open MS Paint (or another graphics program) and hold down
the Control key again, and this time press the v key.

This should paste a screenshot in the graphics program.
Save the file from there.

That is one of my problems. I think I deleted MS paint while cleaning out stuff, How can I get it back. ? Then I should be able to check to see IF the key is working on the keyboard.

The way I understand it is if the "Silent Mode" is selected, any infected files will be dealt with automatically according to the following rules: If Yes is selected, file will be automatically deleted. If No is selected, file will automatically put in virus chest. If no boxes are checked, Avast will ask you how you want to deal with the infected file. HTH. Terry

One of those messages that you "forwarded" (which you should never do)probably had a nasty enclosed. It could be a trojan rather than a virus. Do you have an antispyware program on your computer like "Malwarebytes" its free. Suggest you download it, install it, update it then run it. Another good one which complements Malwarebytes is Spywareblaster, Its always running in the background and keeps these nasties from loading. You just have to update it weekly or so and its free as well. What service package of XP do you have (hopefully XPSP3) To find out right click on "my computer" select properties and that info should be in the box that appears

I had the exact same problem when I renewed my Avast subscription 3 days ago. It says "Missing runtime error" Or something like that. Went to Staples and they messed with it for over an hour and couldn't fix it. Finally took it to a friend who is a computer geek and as soon as I told him about installing the Avast, he knew what it was. It has something to do with the Firewall of the new Avast. He had to reset it to allow things to work. I know nothing about computers but maybe that's enough info to help you.

Thanks all. I get the message when I boot the computer. I'm not on line at all. I tried to find more info on this. I have tried to post the information I found but GW keeps blocking my post saying I'm posting profanity or illegal content!! According to Wikipedia, this is a form of virus. GW won't let me type the name. I have tried to rearrange my post so many times, I'm not sure it makes sense but GW keeps deleting my post. I don't understand what this all means but said it is involved with servers or blogs? I don't have a blog although I have read a few. There is also a suggestion about Java, but again, I don't understand. I can't offer what I discovered because Garden Web won't let me. I looked at the AVAST forum but they are old posts going back to 2010-2011. So I'm wondering if I'm infected as the warning keeps popping up? I haven't had any problems with the computer, all my scans come out clean but it seems this is something which changes code? I don't understand all the technicals of computers and not sure how to proceed. Wow, I just tried to give the link to Wikipedia and got a warning from GW that I was posting an illegal link. You can paste it into an empty email or a blank word processor page also.

Press Windows Button + R

type: mspaint.exe

Press OK

If paint is on your computer, it will open.

If it does not open, it means you deleted the .exe file.

Well between all you and me I did figure out how to do it. I have it going to office and I tried it and it worked. Now all I have to do is wait until the warning comes up again.
