What about crystal knobs? I think they'd look pretty in your bathroom!

I agree, crystal knobs would be lovely. You can get the kind with nickel on the bottom part that screws into the door, or just have all crystal.

I also agree that crystal knobs would look great, unfortunately DH has vetoed them. I've already added a few girly items and since it is our main and shared bath, I've got to allow him some input ;-) Any other thoughts?

amsunshine, the subways are daltile 101 white. Our bathroom is too small for a seperate shower -we just have the tub/shower combo.

I see your problem with the lower drawer with the bottom hinge. I think 2 cup pulls would be nice, but maybe awkward with it opening downward? Maybe a suitcase pull?

I just posted this on the kitchens forum, but Restoration hardware has pulls in brushed nickel that might work, and they come in longer lengths, in case you don't want to put two pulls on that one drawer front. A little more convenient to just use one hand instead of two.

They also have some that combine glass pr ceramic with nickel that have nice clean lines and don't look quite so "girly" so your DH might not object so much? Yet they still look "period". Take a look at the Grafton and the Vintage pulls. Also the ceramic pull and the round glass cup pull. Lots of pretty choices!

I have cup pulls and round knobs together in my kitchen. I think it's a great look, and very classic. However, the "proper" hardware for the cabinet doors, since you are a lucky enough stinker to have inset doors (*lust lust*) are cabinet latches (RH is overpriced on so many things but they have the best price on those little latches); those combined with cup pulls on the drawers give a very snazzy finished product. This picture is of a kitchen but it shows you just how darned amazing they look together. I do think a single pull, unless it's a very long one, on that big huge drawer might look a little puny.

Also, I know it's kind of a "duh" idea, but why don't you think about trading out the hinges for chrome ones if you would rather have chrome knobs/pulls? It's actually a very, very easy project to switch hinges.

Those cabinet latches are great!! I think the OP's DH may like them (vetoeing the crystal . .maybe this would be a more masculine look!) I will have to keep these in my inspiration file!

Johnmari, luck had nothing to do with it. I had to search high and low to find someone willing to make me cabs with inset doors. Those latches are to die for and what I had in mind originally. But when I started thinking about it practically (harder to open, harder to install and that would mean moving teh hinges on the far right door - not sure why the cab maker did it that way) I started leaning towards simple knobs. But I may have to revisit that option.

I think you're right about redoing the hinges (lazy me didn't remove them when I painted teh cabs and got paint on them anyways)

Oh, I ain't going anywhere. Every house I've looked at has had the most GAWDAWFUL bathrooms, so there's surely at least one more bathroom remodel in my future! LOL

There are lots of cabinetmakers up here who are willing to do inset doors. Crown Point, Black Cove, Kennebec, Thomas Moser are all within two hours' drive of me, and there are lots of less-famous types. Maybe it's a New England thing. Unfortunately, they will charge you an arm and a leg and your firstborn child. I would do any number of evil things for a kitchen like the one I linked to above, but that's only, oh, easily $75,000 worth of cabinetry! (Frankly, I can't even imagine being able to scrounge up more than about a third of that to pay for an entire kitchen renovation, unless I won the lottery jackpot. My budget is more like Ikea, and they were mean and dropped their inset style. Feh.) Someone was kind enough last year to give me some pictures showing a way to fake inset cabinets using trim pieces and decorative end panels on frameless cabinets - {{gwi:1463023}}. Look very carefully at the closest cabinet.

Ikea used to have inset cabs? I'm adding that pic of the fake inset to my future reno file. We just redid the kitchen before I found the amazing cabinetmaker - but you never know what the future holds.

$75000 just for cabs. Yikes! This guy did the 2 cabs pictured above for $1000 which I thought was pretty good considering the time and effort he put into them.

Lee Valley has some latches similar to the RH ones. I may go down and pick one up just to see how it would look (we don't have an RH anywhere near).

Squirrelheaven over on the decorating forum photoshopped some knobs on for me.They look pretty good so I think I'm going to stick with all knobs. And darn if she didn't use crystal knobs which look fabulous. I may have to work on DH about this one ...

Yeah, Ikea used to have a white inset door style called "Duverum". I guess it cost too much to make so it was replaced with the frameless "Duvbo" which I do not like at all, I think the molded-onto-the-surface pseudo-beadboard looks very fake. I have heard that Duvbo is being discontinued, too; Ikea's been discontinuing a lot of styles so I think they're about to come out with a bunch of new door styles next year. The kitchen I linked to above is actually a mixture of white and dark brown cabinets ({{gwi:1463024}}) and I could probably replicate the look with Adel White and Adel Medium Brown (if they decide to keep that one, there are frequent rumors of that one getting discontinued too). Depends on what we get for a house, too. I'm not sure that that kitchen style would look right in, say, the 1972 ranch that's on our list. ;-)

Now I am a little sorry we didn't do inset doors and drawer fronts (this is not the same as framelss, right?). We just never paid attention to this stuff before our project was right in our faces. I wish there was a cabinetry site where each style was pictured and explained.

And budge, with your hinge I'd use two knobs on that bottom drawer, not cup pulls...not sure about the finish, but I'm with your husband, I don't care much for glass ones.

That is one beautiful kitchen johnmari. We did a mix of finishes in our kitchen and I love it (despite everyone saying it is trendy now). Not sure what I'd do with a '72 ranch. I've never lived in a house younger than 80. But if anyone can make it work, you can.

mpwdmom, we did frameless in our kitchen and while it's not the same it can have an almost similar look as johnmari posted above. The drawback to inset is that you lose a little interior space. We did our learning on our kitchen remodel. I didn't discover these forums until it was almost done and, like you, didn't understand the different options in cabs until long after we'd ordered. Having said that, I love our kitchen but there is lots I'd do differently having the knowledge I do now thanks to GW.

We took our 1st bath in the new tub this morning - I still have to prime and paint the walls before we can shower - but I have to say I really love it.
