SubZero Pro 48 alternatives

I LOVE the look of the SZ Pro 48, however, as you know the price tag is steep. Are there any similar looking 48" built ins out there? I have heard that Liebherr makes a good looking fridge. What are the prices of the alternatives?

Not really, the Pro 48 is about the only game in town. You can look at a commercial Traulsen which is very similar but not really for home use. The price will be similar. Bottom line is, if you want the look pay up.

fori - loved the comment about the fridge hiding. It really does look like that in the drawing. taggie, I too like the 48 but think it's too big and don't like the transition on the right (i.e., no wall). greendesigns - thanks. Tupperware is a good idea. I tend to pack as much into whatever space I have (and regularly throw out stuff from the fridge I've forgotten about). I looked at the Electrolux but found some bad reviews. Another option I've considered is the 32" Frigidaire Pro. lascatx - I do have a big case of fridge envy, you're right, but I'm not sold on the freestanding fridge yet. I hear what you're saying about symmetry. motherof3sons - thanks, problem is, I know what I don't like (what I have)... something is just not right with the sink wall the way it is. Speaking of your tile, I'm ready to come help you tile, just to see how it looks:) ci_lantro - thanks for the dissenting opinion (always good to hear), but I do like the wall. What is under it, in the floor below? Is it near a mid-span beam or wall? Or do the floor joists run through with no support (clear span)? I envision the fridge against some wall even if it is in the middle of the house, so perhaps something is holding up the partition. What to add? A question better asked of a structural engineer (site visit) than over the interwebs. The answer will probably not be a lone column. It may entail a girder under several floor joists and a pair of columns, footers, etc. if all is lacking. Casey

I actually like having a fridge that doesn't impose a particular type of organization on me. We have a commercial refrigerator in the garage. It's essentially just a big rectangular stainless steel box with adjustable shelves. So, in many ways it is very similar to the Pro 48. We love it. We bought a bunch of plastic crates/boxes to add organization, as appropriate for our use cases. Takes getting used to; but once you do, it's hard going back. The one thing we noticed though was that we had to buy one extra shelve, as commercial fridges are optimized for bulkier items. Sounds as if that wouldn't be a problem with the Pro 48. If money isn't a problem, and if there is sufficient space in the kitchen, then I can see the Pro 48 being a great refrigeration option. If space is more critical, then split into two separate towers, or into a tower and some drawers.

Purchased the 48" Sub Zero with water/ice on the outside door. Had a Jenn Air before this. Sub zero cost around $13,000. It is the loudest refrigerator we have ever owned. Wish we had stuck with the Jenn Air! Will have to live with this forever!! Bad choice!

Can you go a little wider? You could get 27" integrated SZ 700BR all-refrigerator with drawers & 700BF all-freezer with drawers for a similar function at less cost. These come either in SS or integrated panel (but not glass front) and you don't have to install them side by side. OR, if you can go even wider to 36" each, & don't want the drawers, the built-in SZ 601R & 601F are less expensive than the integrated units.

You can even mix a SZ 36" built-in refrigerator & a 27" 700BF integrated freezer--we did. They are not side by side.

All are good ref. but none is remotely like the pro48 which is designed to be in your face, not totally concealed!

Guys, it's OK to not have an answer or rec. that works.
