Frameless glass shower Q
Comments (15)Well, I'm back... Thank you for your input guys, you're the bestest of the best! For the past week, I've been trying to get glass installers to come see the job. Some said flat no, too busy this time of year. Some made appointments they did not keep. (don't you just hate that!) And some quoted outrageous prices over the phone without bothering to even come see the job site or even know what I wanted. They just asked the dimension of the shower and quoted on the square footage, some as high as $125 per s.f. Puh-leaze!!! Frankly, I am a bit discouraged. This part of the project, I would rather not do by myself. Let alone handling large heavy panes of glass, I am nervous about drilling into my nice marble tiles to install clips. I would just crumble into a pile of dust if I were to snap one in the process... Maybe I'll go directly to plan B and install a circular rod and a curtain... (Now...where to find a nickel plated circular curtain rod...)...See MoreMust I use a u-channel for glass in steam shower?
Comments (6)You can use a u-channel and there are several really wonderful examples of showers that have been installed with them. TreasureTheDay's stands out as a recent example. But you can also use clips and it will be just fine. We installed a steam shower about two months ago with a set up very similar to yours (fan outside) and used clips with silicone sealing the space between the glass and solid surface. Though it's been hot, we've used the steam shower at least once a week -- it's great for aching muscles after a day of gardening! Your glass installer is quite right that no residential steam shower enclosure is perfectly steam-tight. But even with our transom, we have minimal leakage. It is not a problem. It's tough to get far enough back to get a picture + glare from lights, but here's ours. From Bathroom...See MoreFrameless Shower Glass Mounting Options?
Comments (40)HI-I know this is an old thread but I am searching for a company in Pennsylvania to fabricate and embed the a 3 sided glass shower enclosure with one door into the granite sill. I have not found any who will take care of creating the channel in the granite. So many opinions from different installers!! "exposed channel is cleaner looking" "clips are cleaner looking" "exposed channel will pit" "clips will get mildew in the silicone" "recessed channel will get dirty".....I am wondering how liamrperry's shower glass turned out? Any problems?Thanks....See MoreClear shims under frameless shower panels?
Comments (13)When did the fellow measure this job? The measuring should take place after the tile is installed. Most times you see plus or minus maybe 3/16". Depends on size and thickness of glass. Clear shims take the weight until the silicone sets up. Removing them will not make any change in appearance than slicing them. With 3/4" gaps I would be telling the boys to take it back and try try again. Who's glass guy? Yours or the builder? I've used the same guy for 14 years. I have sent back one piece in all that time. I have one client who dislike my guy and other than that a perfect record. These glazers should be using levels and plumb lines to do the job right. To be perfect the fix panes should go in first and then doors measured....See Moredavidro1
