We're considering switching our email from Outlook to Gmail. We're tired of the spam and afraid of clicking on the wrong thing and wiping out our computer (yes, we have anti-virus etc.). In addition, we'd like to be able to check our email from the web wherever we are.

I'm wondering if any Gmail users here have anything to offer good or bad, warnings or praise, whatever. I check my work email via Webmail so I am very accustomed to that process and don't mind it at all.

I have had a gmail account for over a year, and while I do get some spam, it seems to come in bunches and soon ends. Gmail can be configured to download in Outlook Express---don't know about Outlook, so you don't have to check via webmail unless you wish. Overall, I have been pleased with gmail.

I have mailwasher that lets me know what is there B4 it downloads from server and the option to mark "friends" and check spam for deletion if need to do so. Get very little spam.

I have gmail and like it better to open in OE as I can write back just as though it was OE but with gmail address etc.

I just opened another web mail account called Windows Live Mail that is an excellent program excepting all your other mail accounts too so you can open, read, and answer all from one place.

Age limit for a google account is age 13 in most countries. What did you enter for a birth date? FYI, I simply googled 'Age limit for gmail' to get that information. Believe me, a good search engine is your friend and a fabulous way to find answers.

My experience with gmail and yahoo mail is that messages are kept forever. Since storage space for free accounts is limited, it's a good idea to 1) keep garbage ads and other marketing stuff out of your main, "real" email account, and 2) delete unimportant messages as received or at least every few months. If you want to keep something in the body of an email and want to find it easily, you can copy the text, paste it into a word processing program's file, and save that file on your PC. You can also print it to keep it. Documents or other attachments you want to keep, like photos, should be saved to a PC folder where other such data files are kept. If important, include them in your backup practices. I'm not an email folder user, it takes more time than I like to spend on something that may or may not be useful at a later date. When looking for a particular message, I find doing a key word search is usually successful and quick.

Let's take a deep breath and start over. I think for whatever personal reasons you have you've blown this up into much more than it is. It's a "lost password for Gmail" access issue, not a Chromebook one. The Chromebook wants a Gmail address to reference your connection. Among the reasons why that's necessary is because Chromebook has limited onboard memory and MS Office-type docs - word processing, spreadsheets, notes, etc - use software from and are saved online in Google Docs, to an account tied to a Gmail account. You can work on such projects on any device, save it to your Google Docs account, and then access it from any other device, including the Chromebook. What sets your saved docs apart and limits access is that they key is your gmail account name and password. That tie-in gets set up as the Chromebook is set up. There are probably other reasons too. End your suffering by using a Gmail account you can access. Remember for this and all other accounts, use a system (whether on paper, using a password app, a text file, or whatever) that's always available to you and easily accessed so that you can find your passwords and update the list when you change one. There's no need to send Google a photo, nor to worry about consequences of a privacy invasion. I hope your other aborted efforts with Gmail accounts you've lost the password for haven't poisoned the well to prevent an easy setup of this Chromebook with a working account. If so, call Acer Tech Support to get it straightened out. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my inexpensive chair. As a temporary fix, I found small floor rugs, at Walmart, the exact color of my chair and put them there on the head rest. Looked fine. The rubber backing keeps them in place.

I like gmail because of the way you can organize messages. Rather than putting them in a folder, you attach labels to them. You can add multiple labels if a particular message covers more than one subject, or just might be filed more than one way.

The user interface is visually clean and well-organized.

They do a good job of catching spam.

I have several different email accounts that I use in various ways and one way I combat SPAM is to use one of the email accounts for registering at forums or different sites or for shopping online so that all of the junk email goes to that one account. Otherwise it won't matter how often you change accounts as once the email address gets to third parties the spam starts all over again.
