New craft project - vintage bottle brush trees

I have been doing a lot of searching on the internet about vintage ornaments and came up with decorated bottle brush trees that are sometimes called teacup trees. Since I have a bunch of plain ones I decided to go through my stash of buttons, beads, ect and try my had at decorating them. I want to do some with the actual small balls but need to find the old small balls I have in some deeply buried boxes in the attic......

OH how darling those are! Wallmart has some pain white ones for $1 and $2 now. I got some, I love them!

Yours turned out lovely. Last year when I was collecting photos for our Inspiration album, these little trees decorated caught my eye. So I bought some plain ones to try after Xmas sales. Of course, they are still packed which doesn't help much, LOL.

So....I had all these great ideas, only to find out that I am only going to be able to fit so much in the box....with some creative packing I am hoping to get quite a bit of it in there, but we'll see....still making stuff. Here's what I have done so far: Painted wood tray, 2 bracelets, 4 pairs of earrings, 3 pairs of crochet embellished socks, 3 small doilies.... And part way through construction are: 2 mini shadow boxes, 4 tassel pairs, 3 wall plaquettes.... And still have all the supplies for some other things that I was hoping to make, but I will have too see how much room I have left in the box! I would upgrade the box to a bigger size, but the postage would be exhorbitant due to how much it weighs already! Netta

I am just wild for the little bottle brush trees also !!!! I love them... I think they are so .... welll just so much a part of the past that I always haaaaaaaaave to have several around... I remember... my little brother had them all over his little train track village.... OH THAT WAS FUN!!!!! I have a smalll collection of them... and I also have a small collection of WOOD, Glass, tinsel and ceramic TREES!!! I just love T R E S S + + + + + + I just love Christmasss !!!!!!!! H * A P * P Y ****** Holidays !!!! * **** - yes look at Walmart - michaels and even my grocery store has some.... and sometimes at the Thrift store... and Salvation Army and Good will..... have fun searching! Just an FYI if you like to sew but don't need 300 new pillow cases or small quilts... Your local hospital probably has a guild that would love to have these items for their child life specialist or senior assistance program. When children check into many of the children's hospitals throughout the nation, the ones who stay a while are often given lttle lap quilts made by volunteers who love to sew and enjoy the outlet. Some are very simple quilts, just a big piece of fabric hand tied with yarn, and others are very difficult patterns (one of my favorites is a quilt we received with several applicae (I can't spell that...applicay?) anyhoo, hand applied and embroidered cats. We've done so many hospital stays that we have quite afew, and I'm a quilter myself, but I still treasure them. I'm making my son shams out of the ones we have (about half a dozen). I'll give them to him when he's grown. They're very special to me, and to the parents who receive them. In a sterile hospital, they're a bright bit of cheer that really makes a difference. We were also given a couple of wonderfully cute pillow cases in bright fabric. They were lined with quilting fabric (so more like shams) and were really cherished, given that hospital pillows are now made of plastic. You can also make tiny quilts, hats and jackets for newborns, especially the preemies, who's families aren't often prepared with tiny tiny clothing for their little ones. Micro preemies, well probably all of them, have to wear a hat at all times. I have a little lime green knit one that was given to us in the NICU that I will always treasure. So, if you've a yearn to sew and want an outlet, do try your local hospital. Oh and on the seniors thing....they often spend a great amount of time in the sterile hospital or nursing home environments, and many don't have family. A bright lap quilt means a lot to these folks :)

It's the darn mudding and sanding that is holding everything up!!! Decided today that my craft table will be 4ftx6ftx35"h! 4x4legs, 3/4inch plywood top and shelf,2x4 construction, wheels and a 2" lip all around to add my magnifying lights. Plus I am going to make specialty shelves for mosaic supplies: 4ft tall x 2ft wide x 6" deep. Table and shelves are not included in the craft room conversion budget...Bad Jane...Scheming out loud... Oh! And I just got a cool idea for a coffee table! I want to have two comfy chairs and a book shelf coffee table so I bought these 2ftx2ft bookshelves, will screw them back to back, put plywood on bottom and top, add wheels for turning and TADA! A cool coffee table/bookshelf! Now that's gotta be mosaiced!!! Tonight I gotta do a bit of sanding, prime the walls, clean up the floor(very messy drywall!!) Tomorrow and next day paint baseboard and walls(DH has abandoned me for work!) Long handled paint roller is my friend now!!! Did I mention I'm wheel obsessed? I seem to want wheels on Everything! I've been looking for just the right(right priced)chair to sit up to the craft table. Like Gretch's!

lynn...what a great idea for these trees. I've seen them many times now in the stores, and outside of using them for Christmas Village Displays..never thought to do this. I've got to keep this in mind. TFS

I bought a couple of trees last year. And they are in the spare room with all the other village things I bought after seeing all the wonderful villages on here.

thank you everyone for your compliments. I am fascinated by vintage ornaments - I do have a few passed down through the family which are treasures but wanted some more. Buying originals is out of the question because of pricing so I try to re-create as best I can. I love crafting so it is a win-win for me :) .....

Lynne, You did a really nice job on your decorated trees. I'd never paid much attention to them either--thought they were for the villages--until I saw how Catknapp used them in her decor. I also saw one at Homegoods that had been dipped in that large crystal looking glitter and it was really pretty. I love to do crafts too, love finding things I can recreate cheaper. ;o) Luvs

Karen - those are beautiful and that is the style I want to do next when I can find my old mini Christmas balls - they are several boxes deep in my attic right now. I also want to find some really pretty teacups - all I have are mugs. I saw some that were done with miniature fruit also - so many ideas so little time......

Lynne, keep the pictures comming!! Would love to have some boxes of old orni's in the attic. Have you seen where someone bleached the ones in the stores now and then dyed them different colors??

My favorite antique mall always has so many beautiful teacups and saucers for reasonable prices. I should buy a few. My grandmother use to collect them and it would sure remind me of her. Unfortunately I don't have any of her's, wish I did.

Well I pulled out my village stuff and it's amazing how you forget what you bought from year to year!!LOL!
I have three trees I bought last year. One I have used as part of the nativity display in the bedroom the other two are white with beads on them. Probably too big for the village pieces I have purchased because they are all smaller pieces.
Soooo.. I will have to figure out how to display them. I have a few tea cups around......

Very pretty, Lynne. I remember them in villages and train set ups, but how cute it would be in a tea cup in the china cabinet!
