Add a dash of classic black and white to your next party, your tree or your gift-wrapped presents with these simple ideas for the holiday season.
Drink Charms
Create customized drink tags with these simple materials.
Materials
Create customized drink tags with these simple materials.
Materials
- Alphabet crafting beads
- Earring wire loops or metal book rings
String your guests’ initials or playful words onto the wire. The wire ends close easily, and the entire ring fits securely around a glass stem.
Place a few tags around the bar for guests to grab. You can also use them atop dinner plates or as napkin rings as an alternative to place cards.
Your guests can move the rings as they switch beverages. At the end of the evening, offer them as small gifts to take home.

This DIY project is also great for making gift tags — add the ring to the top of an ornament and then attach both to a gift.
Personalized Tree Ornaments
Decorate a classic plain glass ornament with paint pens. Keep the palette simple with just a few coordinating colors — here I used black and white.

Materials and Tools
- Ornaments
- Paint pens
I found a box of matte black ornaments without the gloss finish. The matte finish makes it easier to control the ink of the paint pen, and the ink also tends to dry faster.
I began at the top of the ornament with simple lines to represent stems and added more lines to make leaves. You can add colorful dots to indicate berries or keep the look minimalist with a single color.
For a personalized touch, add a name or holiday wishes.

If you’re using glossy glass ornaments, you’ll need to avoid contact with the paint for a few minutes or until it is completely dry.
Creating your own ornaments will give you a fun assortment for your own decorations or good options for personalized gifts.
Black and White Christmas Wrapping Paper
Materials and Tools
Materials and Tools
- Wrapping paper (I used black, but any solid color will do)
- Paint
- Foam brush
Start by rolling out the paper or cutting it to your preferred size. Tape it to a flat surface, such as a table, to keep it from rolling up while you work.
Tap paper with the tip of the sponge brush to add loose lines and patterns. Experiment on scrap paper first to see how to get your desired effect.

Let the paint dry while you decorate more sheets of wrapping paper.
Personalize your gift wrap with craft beads, yarn, wire and ornaments.
