Lavasoft Ad-Aware Now Not Recommended

Well, you already know how this works. You install a regular update with the free Version 8.2.0 using Windows XP. The updated software looks fine. You try to start a scan and the software acts normal. But that only lasts about 30 seconds.

Then you get a window saying that Ad-Aware shut down unexpectedly and asks permission to send a report back to Lavasoft. You click OK and go thru the maze of forums in their website and find nothing except for notices in which they boast about "improvements" to the software on Feb 16.

So now I cannot scan with Ad-Aware for who knows how long. At least Malwarebytes still runs fine and I could resort to checking with it. But I have noticed that Ad-Aware sometimes catches stuff that MB does not so, I prefer to use Ad-Aware and complement those scans with MB scans weekly or more.

I never found out if the company even really knows that there is a serious problem with their software. The forums have never seemed well organized. I go here and there but I cannot find one that shows postings of people with problems asking questions.

So if anyone has the same problem, misery loves company. I f someone has an inkling on what to do, let me know. If you are considering installing Ad-Aware, I used to recommend it but, like Consumer Reports does, I no longer do that until this problem is resolved.

TIA, Luis
