Irfanview--Sometimes I remove the old version--sometimes I don't. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Usual cautions about not installing the offered toolbar. Always install the plugins. The listing of changes is on the web page (HISTORY OF CHANGES). Yes-you can still resize pictures.

You would do well to get rid of AdAware-it's not as good as it once was. Suggested alternatives are Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, A-Squared.

You can install over Irfanview right over the older version and as noted above the plugins as well. In addition to the above mentioned spyware programs SpywareBlaster is also an alternative but you must remember to do the manual updates.

agree, you can just install over the old.

and adaware was once a good program but not so much today, much better programs are as mentioned malwarebytes free, superantispyware free, and adding spywareblaster to the pc is a definite plus, it does not scan you simply update it once a week and then hit enable all protection so the shield turns green on it and it sits in the back ground protecting you.

Yes you can overwrite, but I personally don't like to recommend it at all unless warranted by the manufacturer.

Overwrite leaves the possibility of application conflicts, abandoned .dlls and orphaned files. Just an increased chance of a negative when so little time and effort is needed.

To be honest with you I am unfamiliar with the software Bazooka but, I did look it up to see what program you were talking about. I have never used Bazooka and so I am unable to give you an opinion on it. Sorry. Maybe there is someone here that is more knowledgeable about the program that can give you an opinion on it.

Minnie, I don't feel like you stole the thread at all, unfortunately I was not able to answer your question and anyone who is knowledgeable about Bazooka is more than welcome to answer your question on this thread, I don't mind at all.

For those of you who mentioned Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spyware Blaster, I have them on this OS. I have had Spyware Blaster for quite awhile now and I downloaded the other two last year. I am very pleased with these programs and appreciate the help that was given to me so that I could download them. I use to have AdAware when it was a good program and thought I would take the chance with the current AdAware and I have become very disappointed with it. You are right it is not the same and that is why I want to remove it. I have given my son the links for the programs that you have recomended and for the removal of AdAware. It just seemed odd that we were both experiencing the same problem with our firewalls and like I said that was the only thing that we had in common on our computers. My sister and Nephew both had problems and they uninstalled AdAware and their computers started working correctly.

About Irfanview, I think I will remove the old one rather than write over it and start fresh. I don't need anymore conflicts.

One last thing I downloaded Auslogics and was surprised how well it did. My computer was really starting to act up and at first I didn't think I was going to be able to run a check disk. I messed with it and finally got it to work and after I ran the check disk I used the Auslogics Disk Defrag and my computer came back to life so to speak. "Smiles"

I was at work when I posted yesterday and I couldn't remember what version of Irfanview I was currently using. I looked this morning and I am using v4.23. This may be important to you as I remember upgrading to v4.25 and having some concerns with resizing pictures. I removed the new version and reinstalled v4.23 from Filehippo. My problem now is I can't remember what the concerns were.

If I think of it I will post it here and/or e-mail you.

I'm using version 4.25 and have not had a problem resizing. I use Irfanview exclusively for that because I feel that I have more control over the final result than with other utilities I have tried for resizing. This doesn't mean it's going to work for someone else and I haven't done a batch operation since upgrading.

Thank you DA, just let me know when you remember what the problem was. At least you were able to go back and download the version that you already had. Do you happen to have the link for that download if for some reason I would have a problem?

Filehippo.com is blocked here at work because it is a download site. Go to the site and look in a panel on the lower right for Irfanview v4.25. Click on it. The appearing page will present a column on the right of prior versions.

Hi,

Since I already have this thread I thought I would use it. I downloaded the new Irfanview over the old one and everything is working fine but I did get on my desktop the bear and it says Irfanview Thumbnails beneath it. I checked in Irfanview and I have all of the Thumbnails so can I just delete that from my desktop? Like I said everything is working just fine, no problems but if I don't need that on my desktop I thought I would remove it and I didn't want to do that without checking with you all first. What do you think, is it ok to remove it from my desktop?

I also downloaded the plugins for the newest version. All is well. "Smiles"

If you don't need the icon for thumbnails you can get rid of it...won't cause a problem. It's provided as a convenience that some do use. What I do is create a folder on the desktop called JUNK. Everything that don't use frequently, I drag-drop into that folder. That way, it's still easily available if I change my mind and want to use something in there.

Desktop icons are just pointers to .exe files for applications. They can be removed or created at any time.

If you ever have a concern as to whether the presentation is an icon or not just right click on it. Select Properties and review the report. If it is identified as being with a .lnk extension it is an icon.

I remove my rarely/not used icons completely. If a time comes I need to access something I just use the Start Menu entry.
