towel rack in tub surround

I know it's very unfashionable to have a towel bar in the surround these days, but I live on the beach and wet bathing suits happen, so I'm prepared to defy the trend.

However, I don't want one of those cheezy ceramic end/plastic bar ones (for one thing, if it doesn't clash with the vanity top we'll probably use a marble patterned tile for the surround), and I have my doubts about how well a regular towel bar will stand up where it's going to be subjected to so much moisture.

So I was wondering if perhaps using a longer grab bar would work. Most of them don't have enough wall clearance to be comfortable for this, but I've seen a few where it wouldn't be like threading a needle to drape something over them.

Suggestions, anyone?
