Tub cleaning with oven cleaner
Comments (2)cat-, You are mixing up the old Easy Off oven cleaner in the yellow cans with the new Fume Free cleaner in the blue cans. The old cleaner was a thick lye based product that would damage porcelain tubs or any ceramic. The new product is not caustic and is safe on those surfaces. Many members have reported on its use over the last few years. It also is good at getting the brown vapor stains off the outside of ovens too. It just takes time to do its job....See MoreStubborn bath tub
Comments (7)I had the same problem when we bought our house. The tub was not in bad shape but the bottom of the tub (non-slip section) was awful. I tried a few suggestions in this forum to no avail. I decided to use Bon ami non abrasive scouring powder with a Mr. Clean eraser. WALA it worked beautifully. Now granted my tub I gather had never been scrubbed so it took some scrubbing and a couple of Mr. Clean erasers! I have used Bon ami on my stainless steel pots for years and I have had them for over 30 years and still look new. I figured if it worked to take burn stains off my pot it should work on the tub. You can also use bon ami on your glass cook top, works wonders!...See MoreCleaning Oven Racks with Glides Warning
Comments (27)I put my Bosch range to self-cleaning and I forgot to take out the telescopic/gliding rack. In the morning, the damage it was done. I got a shine rack, which was completely stuck and not moving in/out. I called Bosch and replacement was over 450 dollars. I fix it for 30 Canadian dollars. Step 1 was to spray inside WD40. Spray a lot and don't be scared. Be careful as it will drip on the floor at the other end. I sprayed both side. Then I went for some shopping and when I was back, I tried the rack. It did slide nice and smooth in and out. But I cannot use WD40 in the oven as it will catch fire or make smoke. Next, I tried to clean with Rubbing Alcohol 99% and a tooth brush. I let it stand for another hour. The last step, I used A LOT of SUPER LUBE multipurpose synthetic grease from Amazon. This reward me. I saved 450 dollars and my rack is like new, and more, is clean....See MoreTub or no tub? Opinions, please
Comments (27)Thanks, dabunch. I'm trying to think through all of this. Our doorways are all going to be wide enough for a wheelchair to come through straight on. If we add a shallow ramp, a wheelchair will be able to get from the front porch or garage into the house, then all around the LR/DR/kitchen, into the MBR and the master bathroom. A wheelchair will not be able to go into the master closet, but I don't forsee either of us living alone if we are in a wheelchair. I was at the cabinetmaker's shop yesterday at the same time a woman in a wheelchair was there planning her kitchen. So many things I would never have thought of...like the microwave not only lowered, but also not over a cabinet. Well, as Bette Davis so famously said, "getting old isn't for sissies." We're not old yet, but we are hoping to be. So we are planning for it....See More- 11 years ago
