Sorry I can't answer your question- I think you would have to open the wall to find out where the pipes run. Mine take up a bit more that a foot of space, and you would have to frame around them as well to install the glass block, so that would be another 3-4" lost, then you have the corner framing on the walls that takes up space. It sounds like a lot of work- have you considered a Solatube? I put one in my shower and it works really well. It was easy to install- my husband and I did it in a few hours. Another option is to put a waterproof overhead light in the alcove. Renee

The acrylic block window I got is a functional awning style window, complete from the factory in a vinyl frame. It's designed for new construction, but I just cut the nailing flange off and presto, it's a remodel unit! The manufacturer's name is Hy-Lite. I ordered it from the Home Depot special order desk, after I convinced the third store that they could get it. Here's a pic, still under construction They have all kinds of styles available in standard and custom sizes, and a handful of patterns. A friend of mine installed a 4' x 6' awning window in his bathroom, and it's fantastic! I recommend 'em. Joe

Hi Maggie 2000!! I too have a love of glass block and I am looking at retiring to MO from VA in a year or two. I will try to post pics of what I would like to do with a 1925 house I have found online that I love and has everything I am looking for. The glass block shower I have picked out for this house is available at home depot but so far I have not fully researched what all is available. If Johnfrwhipple was available I would have him do the build and remodel lol, since I really want one that has no door. I am going with a pedestal sink to stay with the age of the house and I do not need the storage space for just myself and 2 dogs. You need 2" vertical height differential between the drain and the bath floor. Typically that differential is created by the "standard" shower curb. For WC access, you can either: 1) Drop the framing in the shower to lower the shower pan and drain. 2) Build up the height of the floor outside the shower so that it's higher than the shower pan. 3) Create the dreaded curb. I've turned the curb into a "hump" or "bump" in the floor, with the rise of the bump occurring over enough run where it can easily be transitioned while i a wheelchair. there are other methods as well. Careful with that glass block wall. Glass is heavy and you don't want the joints rusting after a few years. Is your hubby "building the house" or "contracting the house"? If the former, congrats! I did everything in my house except the foundation, the chimneys, and the drywall. Advice? By the time you get to drywall, he might want to sub that job out. Subs will save you time and frustration with that job. It also comes at a point in the timeline where a break is well deserved. Mongo
