Cleaning Glass Block Shower
Comments (6)I've had one for years and I find them very easy to maintain. We each squeegee the tiled walls and glass bricks after every shower, which pretty much eliminates that nasty task of cleaning the shower once a week. Once every six months, I sprinkle an abrasive cleaner (non-bleach, but with other types of safe whiteners) on a plate and take a toothbrush to the grout. We have water in NJ that turns the grouting an orange color. This gets rid of any stained grouting. Cher...See Moreglass block in shower - pics/cost
Comments (0)Has anyone here used glass block for a portion or all of their shower? Our master bath addition faces the back of the house (woods) so it is mostly private, but gets little light. We have one large window centered over the tub, and one small awning window over the toilet on the adjacent side that faces the neighbor's house. I'd love to do the wall of the shower that faces the window/tub in glass block to let some of the natural light in and prevent the shower from becoming a dark cave. We are planning on doing the rest of the shower in a blue blend mosaic tile. Can anyone share pics of glass block? We are hopefully getting the mosaic tile (it is not glass tile on mesh backing, but instead 1x1 tiles already on a 12x12 mortar board) at $8/sq ft, but we have to make that decision today as the sale ends and it goes back to $16/sq ft. How is the glass block compare price-wise? Thanks!...See MoreGlass block wall for shower?
Comments (4)As to style, I know, but everything comes and goes. There's a good bit of glass block being used today. It will have a more modern than vintage feel. But I'm glad to hear it's been easy to take care of....See Moreneed help w/shower build with glass block
Comments (3)You need 2" vertical height differential between the drain and the bath floor. Typically that differential is created by the "standard" shower curb. For WC access, you can either: 1) Drop the framing in the shower to lower the shower pan and drain. 2) Build up the height of the floor outside the shower so that it's higher than the shower pan. 3) Create the dreaded curb. I've turned the curb into a "hump" or "bump" in the floor, with the rise of the bump occurring over enough run where it can easily be transitioned while i a wheelchair. there are other methods as well. Careful with that glass block wall. Glass is heavy and you don't want the joints rusting after a few years. Is your hubby "building the house" or "contracting the house"? If the former, congrats! I did everything in my house except the foundation, the chimneys, and the drywall. Advice? By the time you get to drywall, he might want to sub that job out. Subs will save you time and frustration with that job. It also comes at a point in the timeline where a break is well deserved. Mongo...See Moreyoungdeb
