Before downloading and installing Superantispyware you might consider updating and running a full scan with your current anti malware program. Your anti virus program probably will not remove this. What anti malware program/s do you hve on your computer?

When running this scan have the external drive attached so it too can be scanned.

As far as I can tell.

dw[1].exe is a process belonging to an advertising program by DelFin. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups.

Find the file on the drive and up-load to virus total and scan it, see what the results say.

I would choose cancel for now.

Owbist & Zep, thanks for your responses. I will do as you suggest. What I am using is Avast, Superantispyware, Malwarebiytes Anti-malware, SpywareBlaster, and Zone Alarm. Have been using these for years, all from recommendations from the people here over the years. I never, at least I can't remember any, get popups, though.

I'll report back when I've done the above. Oh, I do update and run the above services every couple of weeks, I don't surf a whole lot.

OK. I've run a MWB scan and it didn't find anything. I'll run SuperAntiSpyware and follow Zep's instrux.

OK good show. According the MWB you have a clean computer. Hopefully you will not see that popup again.

I had the same problem with my last computer which was Vista. I don't remember getting the name of it, but it said some info would be lost if I continued. I have never noticed anything missing. I just ran superspyware on my ex HDs and found two infections on the older one, but they were from things I had visited and joined. One was msnbc health. I believe mine to be false positives.

I scanned with updated Superantispyware and came up clean. I used the search function and looked for dw1.exe and didn't find it. If I get that message again, is there anything valuable in the document summary info that will mess up something if it is gone?

Yes I survived. I have mine backed up on two sources, so if one fails I have the other, plus having it on the PC. I got the message on my Iomega HD, never on my HP HD. It may have been just that HD. If it keeps on doing that, you might move one or two items then check to see if there is anything missing. Most of my messages like that were photos or music.
