desktop picture doesn't fill space

I had some difficulty erasing an advitorial page from my computer. Finally got it gone,now my desktop has a 4 inch band at the bottom. Everything else seems fine.

I have tried other pictures & rebooting. Also tinkered with

display settings. Nothing works.

I have Windows Vista with a 19 inch LCD widescreen monitor.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution to see if that helps? How about the monitor settings is there a setting to stretch the display?

Maybe right click desktop
choose 'Personalize
then 'Desktop Background
then scroll down to 'Wide Screen

and make sure the stretch button is selected;
probably do that with any pic but if the dimensions arent scaled right, it may become distorted.

Annabeth - if it were only that easy, but I don't believe thorns will avert Miss Belle. She chewed down the Knock out with no problem and she chews old blue spruce branches that I can't even bear to hold in my bare hands! Ouch! I hope your pups continue to leave your roses alone. Good dogs! Roseseek, I know just the sort of dog you have. My late Giant Schnauzer was the same way, only she had the size and muscle to try to herd me indoors when she had had enough of the outside world. ;-) Hoovb, I've lived through some awful indoor destruction by puppies and young dogs. I think the most insulting was the Bouvier I had back in the 70's who ate the dog training book from the coffee table. So much for "Walkees!" (I just love your two dogs, BTW and could see myself forgiving them almost anything, even that kitchen molding.) Jeri, your long haired Dalmatians are beautiful - elegant dogs. I wish I was home with my dogs more than not, but someone has to work to buy the dog food here. ;-) All the same, even if I were at home as on the weekends, I could not stand to spend hours outdoors. No, 20 minutes or so of winter weather at a time is plenty for me, thank you. Meanwhile Forrest, the Labradoodle seems NEVER to get cold!

I absolutely love your kitchen but probably because it is very similar to ours. We have creamy shaker style cabinetry with some glass doors, midtone maple floors and the overhang of our peninsula is dark-stained maple - all the same elements as yours (except we have a granite counter - the very classic giallo ornamentale). Our kitchen has been finished since September and I am still playing with accessories and colours. I lived with it for awhile to figure our whether I wanted to stay in the neutral colours or whether I wanted to add some pops of colours. You do need to live with it and let it just happen and evolve. My Process then became: When I put some of my "play" dishes back into my glass cupboards (not the everyday ones) I noticed that blue was a common colour in my dishes and so I lived with those for a while and then I found some really cool orange/terra cotta plant containers at a local garden shop and they "spoke" to me so I brought those home and put ferns in them (they would actually look great in your space). The blues and oranges are really adding to my space. I will now wait a while but when I'm out and about I do keep my eyes open for little touches. I would wait before doing anything over your stove as you may find that you like the openness of the space depending on what else you do in the room. Don't forget that whatever you put there is going to get dirty and will need cleaning. What about a piece of metal artwork ? Just as an aside: I look at some of the beautiful kitchens that people have done with the fancy frou-frous and wonder if I should have done something like that and then when I see yours, which is so similar to ours, and I go -nope- ours is perfect for us. Again, I love the clean simple classic gorgeous lines of your kitchen and the accessories and accent colours will evolve.

Hi all, no photos yet as I've come down with a bad cold; taking a decorating timeout. Right now I'm sitting in the LR with a fuzzy bathrobe and some hot tea. But sometimes a couple of days to let things settle is a good thing. GK, I'm looking forward to seeing your piano. Mine used to be turned so that the keys were visible in the room. It has its advantages, for sure. Awhile back I posted here with another question about the Living room, and Les suggested I look at turning it the way it is now. I hadn't thought of doing it that way, and once I tried it, I really like it especially from the viewpoint of the person playing or singing. Now I have a view of the outside instead of looking up into a corner, and it's wonderful. Whatever you decide, when you have your piano delivered, I'd advise trying it a couple of different ways while you have the movers there. I can't wait to see your pics; I'm sure it will be beautiful, and what a wonderful addition to your life! Oh, and I'm going to check into a way to raise the height to a different level. Right now mine has two settings; one very high, and another about 4 or 5 inches. I'd love something in between, and it looks like the piece that holds the top up is something you just screw into place. So maybe there is one that would allow me to keep it raised but just not so high. Thanks jenny, bigdog, and oceanna. I appreciate your interest and kind words. Oceanna, I do like your suggestion about a more colorful piano shawl. If I go back in that direction I will definitely try something else. I agree that when the lid is raised it's not the best for seeing the artwork, although that view is only a problem when you view it from a sitting position. When you are standing up or walking around, the art shows up better. I do love the three paintings there now and will most likely keep them on that wall. The painting of the young lady used to be in my kitchen, and I miss her there, so she may go back eventually. So that wall is probably in play......(LOL) as you said in one of your other posts, it really never ends, does it?

Thanks to all for your suggestions. To clarify a couple of points raised. The wall behind the right third of the range is even and level with everything to the right of the range. I believe it's because it's one piece of sheetrock that comes to the frame behind that part of the range. The left 2/3 of the range is slightly skewed or recessed. Again, I think it's because there's a new piece of sheetrock and slightly recessed framing behind that part of the range and wall (apparently the framing wasn't touched by the new contractors and it was an unevenness that existed with the house). In any case, the range can never be flush because there are 2 "different walls" behind it. I like the thought of covering the gap with SS to make it look like a filler piece that likely won't get noticed and will cover the gap, as well as cost much less. The contractors actually suggested that as well as a possibility. By the way, our contractors did everything except floors and granite. The granite and floor guys were great - they actually noticed other areas of unevenness but because there was no continuous granite, I think the granite guy didn't notice it and simply squared each piece of granite to each respective piece of wall. We've discussed the "should" of the contractor having to cover it. We'll see now if they do what they should because they should have caught this earlier. Depressing, sad, etc... The thing is, the contractors are actually really good, creative, etc. -- they are just CARELESS and HASTY. It's the craftsmanship that seems to be lacking these days. BUT, we're just about done and will post pictures of the final product soon. Thanks again.

it is always best to try to use a wallpaper pic that is sized for your size monitor what resolution size is your monitor? for example my regular 19" is 1280x1024 so when I go looking for wallpaper I try to select one that size so it fully fits my screen properly, if you don't get one the proper size you may have to set it to fit the screen by stretching it or bordering it. this is a good site to look for wallpaper where you can select on the left the actual size you need, once you have the picture you want selected and open full size just right click on it and save it to your pc or set it as wallpaper.

most 19"wide screen resolutions are 1440x900 I think.

It's probable that you're on the right track with the above
suggestions.

Is there NEVER a time with a band on the bottom?
What happens when you push your mouse down there? Can you see
it , does it disappear, still show up or what happens?

It's possible that the aspect ratio, how wide to how tall the
monitor thinks it should show images. This is not a setting
that is in the monitor itself. It's in the software that support
the monitor.

What brand monitor do you have and what's the model number?

I would suggest going to boot up in safe mode and see if the
problem disappears when there's no video driver running the
software for monitor. This happenes when safemode tells the
computer to load, nothing.

By loading nothing the monitor should display things the basic
way 'nature intended'

There are 10's of ways to figure this problem out. PRobably
however only 1 GOOD way to resolve it. BE SURE that you
fully understand all of the choices given to you by well meaning
technicians before committing to how you will solve it.

You do not need to reload anything, to fix it, almost certainly.

Do you have a floppy disk? The 3 1/2" type disk. If not then
a CD might work OK. Do you have any access to memory stick?

I ask because my first thought is to run a simple DOS program
that will let the screen show its native resolutions.
Tere's other ways. I'm trying to avoid going down a path that
introduces confusion.

Thanks for suggestions.I've already tried many things. Resolution settings. Different pictures,etc.These pictures looked fine until problems.
Today i got into NVIDIA control panel,where you can use arrows to change monitor. I can move picture from side to side but the up & down arrows don't work. It addresses my problem,picture seeming to run off the screen.,but can't fix it.
It is an Acer monitor ,3 years old.
Only desktop looks off.Other pages look OK.

Put your screen resolution back to it's native resolution 1400x900

Then go to the link and try a back ground recommend for 1400x900.

1440x900 widescreen wallpapers for 17-inch or 19-inch widescreen LCD Monitors.

have you tried doing a simple system restore to just prior to what ever changed? I would try that

Sorry I was so long getting back here. I wanted to report that a System Restore done the trick. I had no idea a System Restore was so quick & easy.

excellent glad you were able to get it fixed, yes indeed system restore is very simple and often can fix the problem.
