I have the same question, so I'm bumping this.

The only guidence I can give is that with the halogen "cooking" on the Advantium, it's great for flat things like pizza or a cassarole, but not so good with arced things like a turkey or a roast.

Also, In my experience, the MasterChef program for Miele seems a bit easier to navigate than the Adv.

Maybe two good points to review with your appliance provider.

I have the same question... I had also looked at the Viking speed oven. For me the biggest issue is that the Miele seems to be the only product with racks, so that you can actually use it as a 2nd oven. Both the Advantium and the Viking have that turntable which I find a bit frustrating. There is no rack option to purchase (that I have found) to encourage you to take out the turntable and insert racks if you want to bake/cook/roast. Viking actually suggested I buy a stock of those cheap aluminum baking pans and use those on top of the turntable. I said for $2200 that was not a good suggestion.

As far as I understand it the Advantium doesn't actually work like a real microwave - it uses light technology? Anyone have an opinion on its actual microwave capabilities?

Apparently the Kitchenaid Architect Series II is also great, but has the same turntable issue.

Personally I am leaning towards the Miele SOLELY for the rack situation. Thoughts?

Replying to my own post... I am going to look at the Electrolux. I believe it has racks that you can insert, and it looks fabulous. A nice compromise, particularly on price compared to the Miele.

We've had our Advantium 240 for almost two years, and we absolutely love it, although I do wish the inside was bigger. When I was researching the Miele speed oven, I was unable to get much information, even from the Miele sales rep. They couldn't tell me how fast the "speed" oven was, and it seems that the term "speed oven" gets used loosely. The Advantium has halogen light, in addition to the microwave and conventional radiant heat. The 240 model is much faster than the 120, and both are faster, I believe, than convection microwaves, which are sometimes called "speed ovens". The Electrolux website says that their speed oven cooks up to 50% faster than a conventional oven. The Advantium 240 cooks up to 8 times faster, and the Advantium 120 cooks up to 4 times faster. I guess it just depends on how much speed you want. But there's no point in paying a speed oven price for something that really isn't a speed oven. I would ask specifics on how fast certain foods cook. For example, the Advantium 240 cooks a whole chicken in 20 minutes, and the Advantium 120 cooks a whole chicken in 40 minutes. (Conventional oven supposedly cooks one in 119 minutes, according to GE) The 20 minute estimate is accurate, from my experience.
All of the so-called speed ovens will brown (I think), and all will function as a microwave. The only ways that they differ would be in internal capacity, in speed, and in looks. The capacity and looks are easier to determine, but the question of speed is sometimes hard to get answers on!

I am going to go with the Electrolux, for the following reasons. 1) I am concerned with whomever is going to buy GE appliances. Who knows whether the service will be seamless, whether there will be parts, whether the company will be sold to a lower end manufacturer. Finally I think the Advantium doesn't look as great as other products (not so important, definitely, but I do like a beautifully designed product) 2) Love the Miele but the cleaning issue has me concerned. I love the internal racks and I love the design. The functionality is unmatched. But essentially I use the speed cook features to speedily cook for my small child, who wants his food and wants it before bursting into tears (he's 16 mos). It doesn't seem that the cleaning is so speedy. 3) The Electrolux is a bit of a wild card because it is a new product, but it combines all the features I want - functionality, speed, racking, design and price.

It seems very silly to be opining on my speed oven choice, but thought I would share!

Saw the Electrolux yesterday. It is a great option in my opinion. Two options for drawer handles, they pull down like an oven (rather than a push-in button like a microwave). Doesn't have the racks like the Miele that slide in, but has two round racks. Depth looks good. I was pleasantly surprised.

We've had our Advantium 240 for a year, and we're pleased with it. It does have a microwave function, separate from the speed oven function--there are two sets of button controls.

The microwave mode has programs of food cooking settings built in, an express button that will give you 30 seconds of High for every button push, or you can set time and amount of power manually. The oven comes with a white ceramic tray that sits on the turntable for microwave mode.

For speed oven mode, you remove the white ceramic tray & either place food on either the smooth or "grill" metal tray provided or in a glass baking dish--the tray or the dish then go directly on the turntable. For a recipe, you then set the power level for the Upper halogen, Lower halogen, and Microwave, plus time. The Advantium comes with a recipe book that gives these settings. Some recipes include some microwave power & some don't. Or, you can press the automatic speed cook button, which lets you choose from a variety of preprogrammed options, which include most packaged frozen foods.

i noticed that the miele has a cooking element in the ceiling that seems like it would be very difficult to keep clean. things spatter in the microwave and the advantum's smooth upper seems more easily wipeable.

As I've posted before, I am underwhelmed with my older Advantium's speed cooking function. I do only have the 120 model, and it doesn't have all the functions the new model has. That being said, a local friend put the new 120 in her new kitchen, and she agrees with me that it works well as both a microwave and a convection oven. After trying the speedcook a few times, she's decided she won't be using that anymore. I have no experience with the 240 model.

I am so glad this got bumped up and people are responding again because I am trying to decide, BY TODAY, about our ovens. I didn't even know that Electrolux had a speed oven. We were looking at one oven with the Advantium or a Dbl oven with a regular MW. Now, I guess I'll take a look at the Electrolux. Thanks.

I can see why people would be underwhelmed by the Advantium 120's speed cook function. It's not very speedy! When you look at the stats that GE puts out, the 120 is really not much faster than a regular convection microwave. The 240 is the one that has the speed. We love our 240, and we use it more often than any other appliance in our kitchen, besides the refrigerator. The only thing I would change would be to make the inside larger, but hopefully they've enlarged that since I bought mine two years ago. Again, I would recommend that if you are trying to choose a speed oven, find out what speeds the oven is capable of. The term "speed oven" is used too often by manufacturers when the ovens are really not any faster.

Really surpised that some of you don't feel the 120 is that much speedier than a regular convection oven. Anyone else?

Malhgold - I agree with Petlady's friend. I love my new 120 but I don't think the speedcook is speedy, either. I do use it all the time as a MW and I also use it as a 2nd convection oven - it's great for baking cookies and I hope, for other things, which I haven't tried yet. I really bought it as a MW and second oven and had to buy the 120 because I only had 27" of space and the 240 needed 30."

How are you coming along - almost there with your plans?
