It's also called low-iron glass or starfire glass, I think. With that type of glass, you don't get the greenish hue that is present with regular glass. I've heard it's the iron in the glass that gives it that greenish tinge.

We got it (Starphire comes automatically when purchasing ShowerGuard). I happen to like it for our application, although there would be other situations where one might *want* the green.

How *odd* that the other installer couldn't figure out what "neutral" glass would mean...it's not *that* huge a leap...

flyleft - are you sure about ShowerGuard inclusion of Starphire? I see no mention of it at the Guardian website but they do list UltraWhite. A Showerguard dealer that I contacted says that Ultrawhite would be an additional charge to the 3/8" Showerguard glass. He recommended not getting it unless your main color is white.

I just looked at the link. Thank you! The glass company I'm getting a quote from actually is a dealer for it, so I'll find out more about it.

How expensive is it and is it worth it? It would be helpful to hear from someone who has had it a while and could really tell the differece.

I have used starphire (low iron) glass in my showers. Regular (green tint) glass and starphire are night and day difference!

Regular glass casts a green tint especially as you go with 3/8" or thicker glass. This negates the expense you put in buying and installing the perfect tile and colors!

I have a sample of 1/2" showerguard with low iron glass sitting at my desk as I type.

Once you have seen starphire you will see the difference, it is quite striking.

The difference in price for Starfire over regular glass for my 60" opening was $450.
I went with the regular glass because I actually prefer the way the green tint goes with the rest of my bathroom. I thought that the starfire had a bluish cast that looked cold.

I'm using a white carrara marble ceramic with some black. So you're saying what I'm calling neutral is call Starfire and has a bluish tint?

I don't know why I would pay more to get a blue tint in stead of a green tint.

There is no blue tint on the starphire except when you look at it edge on. So instead of a green edges glass, you will get a bluish edged glass. Green glass has a green tint when you look through it which is missing in starphire.

So your white carrara marble will look greenish through the 3/8" shower doors. Best is to go to a glass shop and bring samples of your tile and put it behind different thickness of regular glass and starphire.
