Years ago, someone here sent a link to the "Turtle Stool". I bought two....loved them so much, I bought two more (one for mom and one for my daughter). We all agree it's the best little stool EVER! VERY sturdy, folds up to under 2" to easily fit between the fridge and counter. Bed Bath and Beyond have the now. They're $13. I just noticed they have a larger one too. The one we have is 9" high. The larger is 10.5 inches high. 5 out of 5 stars (g)

I know it may be too late for this suggestion, but I had our vanity made so that the drawer was at teh bottom and it opens to be a stool.

Our amazing cabinetmaker made a bread drawer like pull out on the top of the drawer, but I had originally planned on just putting a piece of wood across the top of the drawer for them to stand on.

Maybe you could do this if your drawer is on the bottom.

And monica, that stool looks really cool too. The only thing I'd want on it would be anti-slip pads on the bottom, since it would be little kids leaning into the sink on a tile floor. Our DD slipped a bit on a wooden stool once. You know, one of those with her name on it in big letters...ah...the memories...

But anyway, just make sure that any stool would not only not scratch the cabinets but also would not slip on whatever floor you're using.

flyleft, it DOES have non-slip pads :) However, a couple of them came off so I removed the other two and replaced them all with better ones.

I second the IKEA stool recommendation. We have several in the kitchen and bathrooms for our little ones. Besides being a bargain, they are simple and attractive, come in a few different heights, lightweight enough for the kids to pick up and reposition, and have rubber on the feet and the standing platform to prevent slips.

A while back I came across a stool on ebay that mounted inside the vanity. When it was needed, you opened the doors and the stool folded out. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it.

We have Baby Bjorn stepstools in each bathroom. They are available in a variety of colors. The design is simple and functional. They are easy to locate. I believe we went through Target.

IKEA. I am a Montessori teacher. I use them in front of the water fountains, commode, etc. They do not tip like the others do.

Second the recommendation for "turtle stools" above. We have one of those, and it really is easy to fold and unfold, and stores away nicely due to the fact that it folds.

I just never knew what it was called, since it was a gift to us.
