copying a cd from a copy

Okay I know it's wrong, but I want to do it anyway. No scolding necessary! I have a copy of Office Pro 2007 and I'm trying to make a copy of the copy. It copies the files - they are on the CD, but apparently, when I try to run the new copy, it says it's corrupted or not available. I'm wondering if somehow it knows it's a copy of a copy.

Anyone know how I can get my new copy to execute or a "backdoor" way of copying it? I do have the serial number, but I can't even get to the part where it asks me to enter it.

I prefer NOT to install the program on my computer without a back up copy of it for myself since I have to give the other copy back to the owner (who copied it from the original).

Did you get any CD burning software with your computer? Two common programs are Roxio and Nero. Usually, when you get a computer with CD/DVD burners, they include some software for burning. If you got one of those, there should be an option that says something like copy an audio CD (or maybe just copy a cd). If you don't have one of those, let us know. There are probably free programs that will do what you want. It's just that you may already have something installed and not need to download anything.

I only ever verified once, if I remember correctly it took as long to verify as it did to burn. Now when I burn I feel confidant the job was done right and have had no problems with any CD.

it may be the cd you are trying to copy, I know the walmart photo cd's that I have had in the past were not always copyable they contain special coding or something that can make it hard if not impossible to copy sometimes. but with most photo cd's you just put the cd in the cd drawer and it will pop up a box asking what you want to do, you want to copy to disc, or you can just drag and drop the pics from the disc to a folder on your pc. Right click on the picture itself and you should have some options like save as or copy to you can use those also to tell it where to put the picture. this is the type of situation I have run into with the walmart cd, this is a quote from a website. "WalMart Photo and also Kodak photo processing--available at nearly any supermarket, drug store, etc.--offer to put your photos on a CD along with developed prints. But, included with the CD images of your photos is proprietary photo/album management software. The photo/albun software seems to be pushed on the consumer to make it his primary photo management software program. These programs include a (re)ORDER PRINTS and/or ENLARGEMENTS function. The objective is to cause the consumer to keep using only THAT photo processing source and photo management program on his PC! Either the Walmart or the Kodak software MUST be loaded to even view the photos on the respective CD or to copy the images to your PC's hard drive. Without loading the proprietary software, you cannot view, edit or copy your photos! " I refuse to load any extra software on my pc if I can not do it with the programs I have then too bad. I will not risk putting spyware on my pc.

Don't want to hijack Urlee's thread, but I have a related question. Is it possible to record only the audio portion of a DVD to a CD? If so, step by step, please. I have both DVD/CD ROM and DVD/CD burner (2 separate drives).

I see no problem in making a duplicate of a program that I own.

Justme, I have DVD's I want to copy, but of course we can't buy the software in this country. I have DVDs that I watch over and over and they are becoming scratched even though I am very careful with them. I have a lot of money invested in my 250 movies and I want copies of my favorites to use and save the origs. We used to do this with tapes all of the time and nobody fussed about it.

I realize the OP wanted to copy a copy. I don't see what the fuss is all about. You can call it illegal but according to the FBI it's only illegal if you sell them.

no no I think y'all might have missed the part where they said this copy did NOT belong to them! They do not own the product. Using someone else's product is indeed illegal. Owning the actual product & key and making yourself a copy is a different situation. Making copies and handing them out to others gets in the illegal territory.

There is nothing morally wrong with copying a product that you own for your personal use. I do it once in a while with music CDs. I burn a clone to carry in my truck while the original remains in the home.

I can't think of a justifiable reason to copy a DVD for personal use, but there may be one.

In this instance the request and cited intent was unclear and appeared to be shady. Always remember on the Internet nothing is as it seems.

"The FBI says......" I challenge that statement as being myth and legend. In Federal statutes, as in state statues regarding contraband, possession alone is a violation. Intent is not an element unless the individual is being charged with manufacture and delivery.
