HP printers and blue screen

ask google and this seems to be a problem. Has this been an on going problem with HP printers. What printer do you have and do you get bluescreen. No, No virus. Downloaded updated driver but didn't fix the problem. Seems to be in the usb port?

I have had two HP printers and have never had a problem with either one. I would not agree that this is a common problem.

Looking at two of them right now (5650 and 380) and had one prior (720) to these, and never had a problem as you refer to.

I'm a newcomer to houzz, but appreciated greatly factorypilot and walt's discussion. I'm also a beginning novice at small engine repalr. I have the same size engine, but it's a 287707 0225 01 single. It would start for ten seconds, then blue smoke, sputter and die. I cleaned the spark plug, waited a few minutes, and it would repeat the same thing. Opened the air cleaner compartment, and bottom of filter screen (foam) was wet with oil and gas mixture. I cleaned the plug again, leaving the filter and filter cover off. It started, but then began spurting oil/gas mix out of the crankcase breather portal. The gas is gravity feed to the carb , with no manual shut-off. The electrical connection at the bottom has the following designation on it. - 76-511 4294. No leaking from the carb area, and to my knowledge hasn't been touched for 25 years. I bought mower used in '96 and it was probably 5-10 years old then. I pulled the valve cover off - a little oil residue in there, and then the head. Gasket seemed in perfect condition - no deterioriation or breaks. I tried to pull the filter housing bottom off, but the one screw didn't allow it to separate from the intake manifold or carb body. Not sure how that comes off - and spindle for valve cover nuts doesn't appear to have anywhere to attach a wrench to pull it out. I'm not a carb person, so not sure what I'd do if I was able to open it up. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'll elaborate more on what I'm trying to do so it'll make more sense. I schedule appointments for technicians to go out and make repairs. Have to use pencil in the appointment book due to so many changes. At the end of the day, I have to make a photocopy of the appointment page and then fax that to the techs for the next day. Appt page will not fit in fax machine, too big, so I fold it, copy one side and then copy the other side. This was not a problem with my other printer but I have gotten a new computer and printer and now this one doesnt seem to print the hand written text as dark as my other one did. I can't find anywhere on the printer to adjust the settings to make it print darker. Thanks for your help.

So perhaps try removing the printer cable from the computer, remove the software program and re-install. If you do not have the CD for the software you can download the latest drivers from HP. At some point during the program install most HP printers tell you when to hook up the printer, at that point you connect the USB cord and follow the on screen instructions. We are assuming that when you switch the printer on it goes through the warm up process, does it do that?

The crash was eveil and took place in stages. First, I was told there wasn't enough virtual memory. The the screen/programs kept freezing and I had to use the start button on the tower to shut down the session in order to get out of the frozen screen. Things got very slow and when I ran MS security Essentials it removed several files but the problems persisted. Finally, when I rebooted I didn't have a router and last, the modem stopped working. I took the tower to a local repair shop and he was very curt when he called me and said I had a terrible virus. He was about to wipe clean the hard drive and I askede if I could come in and save some files. His reply was that he didn't have time to wait for me. I couldn't stand going without email and internet so I just let him do his thing. Oh, he also told me to get a new router and he had never seen my old router. I did as I was told and went to Staples where a salesman advised me against getting the super-duper wireless model router because my ISP, TDS is notoriously slow (boy do I agree with that!) and even if I got a very good router I still would never be able to stream movies. The repairman gave me back the tower with a version of XP slightly different from my original (no, I don't know what I had, only that the screen and icons work a little differently), Internet Explorer 8 and Outlook Express. I immediately had problems setting up OE even thgough my ISP confirmed I had used all the correct settings. I had bought a new printer with wireless capabilities and it worked only as a wireless. Then--the router stopped working!!! When the man from Staples came he sat down and opened a few programs and punched in changes while he was able to talk to me. He found that my laptop had a virus but I no longer use it because I prefer my netbook. He told me he found several settings that were incorrect even though I never changed them. He was quite a whiz, polite, patient and I am pleased I now know someone local who will come to my house if I need him. He said Staples will have some good sales around Christmas and recommended HP. One of my previous desktops was HP and I was always satisfied with the way it worked. He carefully told me he thought I would find what I want and get a better deal with an HP when I said I was considering a Dell. Lastly, he recommended I get 6G of RAM, 500 or more on a hard drive, and a quad core processor. I am about to put out a general question on this forum asking what I can expect if I pay for a quad core vs. a dual core. Before he left he asked if I wanted him to he would set me up with a gmail account. I told him TDS's POP3 and SMTP is gmail and I was going to let them set me up with their gmail for my two email addys. My mail is @ TDS, not @ gmail, but the server uses gmail. I have a 940C Deskjet printer, it is an old one. I haven't had any problems with it up until now.

For some unknown reason when I try to print something in Mapquest or Randmcnally it prints out in real small print. It has also done this with some song lyrics that I have tried to print from a website. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

Owned a HP Photosmart 7760 for nearly 2 years with no problems at all other than the price of the inks :-)

I have a HP printer, and so does my daughter. No problems for either of us.

thirdfrt, I had the same problem with some program, and I posted on here for help. Thanks to the experts here, I was able to fix it. It was some setting. Trouble is, I don't remember the fix. Maybe some one will help you with the problem.

I have a Desk Jet 932C and I have never had a problem with a blue screen.

Thirdfrt on my HP I can click File/Print.... then select Properties and the Effects tab. Now you can play with the setting to fill the page.

Hi owbist,

I did as you instructed but saw no Effects tab. What I did do was go to file/print preview and clicked on View full width for this page and walla it went back to full width. I thought I clicked on that before but saw no change, but this time it changed it to the full view. This is weird and I have no idea exactly what all I did do. "LOL" I made a boo boo and clicked on something that enlarged this page and I lost my taskpane. So I just kept hitting the backspace button and got rid of it and now everything is back to normal.

Now I just went back into Mapquest and did a print preview and it was once again showing only half the page. It does have a place where you can click on print from their site but I don't know if it will give me all of it. What's up with that? Is this something that Mapquest has set up and keeps my printer from printing out right? Looks like it is doing it in RandMcnally too. Hummmmm I am confused.

I'm not big on printing Zoomed or Shunk images of maps.

Might want to get it in your browser then print screen. Paste as a new image into your graphic editor and try printing from there.

Re: Blue Screen (of death) and HP printers. I have an HP Photosmart 3210 XI All-In-One and it has a glitch with one application. It works with everything else I have. An updated driver did not help, and my queriers were ignored by both HP and MicroSoft. I have discovered a work-a-around.

The Problem:
Windows XP
Office 2000 - buried within Office 2000 is a scaled down version of MicroSoft Photo Editor. The features that it has works very well. If I bring an image into the photo editor and attempt to print it, XP complains of an illegal operation and shuts down the photo editor.

The Work-a-Around:

After the computer has booted and before attempting to print an image from the photo editor, re-install the printer, or install it as another printer and delete the original install. This can be before starting the photo editor or after an image has been loaded into it.

To install: Go to the "control Panel", click, or double click depending on how your computer is set up, on hte "add printer" icon. Follow the instructions in the connection wizard making sure that you choose the port that your printer is connected to. After "finish" of the install, a new printer icon will appear in the printers windows and the newly installed printer will have a check mark indicating it s the default printer. Right click on the old printer icon and delete it. (You probably don't need to uninstall the unused printer connection. I do it to conserve resources.) Close the windows and you are ready to print until the computer is rebooted again. As a bonus, the intall-printer untiltiy will remember all your replies except for the connection port making it short work to reinstall the next time.

Strangely enough, this is the only application I have that exhibits this problem. All others work fine including an ancient version of NetScape.

My goodness Jemdandy that seems an awful lot of work just to print a photo LOL

Have you considered using another photo editing program and avoid that hassle? Irfanview comes to mind as a simple but very effective replacement. If you want something stronger there is Photo Filtre or the super strength Gimp with a large learning curve. All these are free programs and might make your lfe much easier while dealing with photos.

Thankyou very much for your replies. I have updated the driver and now after a few experiments with different photo editing I did discover that seemed to work. Not printing out of the office photo program . I'm not sure what I did though. (I am not computer literate) I think I am ok for now. We'll see. printer is hp psc 2175 all in one.
If I reinstall the printer, do I have to update the driver again?

Maggie if you have to re-install the printer I suspect HP will ask you if you wish to look for updated drivers. If not then it will set itself up to start all the time and seek updates at some point in the future unless you disable the feature.

I deny my HP the right to seek updates because it gets on my nerves keep popping up

Hi all,

Well my problem is solved. I went into the control panel and clicked on Printers and Faxes and found out that there were two 940c printers listed. I talked to my brother in law and he told me to delete all of the printers that had 940c there and then shut down and reinstall it. I was also having a problem with it showing a warning about the ink and I had changed the ink and it was still there. Anyway I removed those printers listed and reinstalled the printer and the computer wizard recognized it and walla the warning was no longer there and when I checked the webpages they were showing the normal size page not half sizes. So by uninstalling it and reinstalling it & rebooting etc it fixed everything. Everything it was showing me before was way off and now everything looks normal again. I am guessing there might have been a conflict going on with two of them listed in there.

I will be able to tell more about it once I start printing out different things. So far so good. "Smiles"
