I have had two HP printers and have never had a problem with either one. I would not agree that this is a common problem.

Looking at two of them right now (5650 and 380) and had one prior (720) to these, and never had a problem as you refer to.

I have a 940C Deskjet printer, it is an old one. I haven't had any problems with it up until now.

For some unknown reason when I try to print something in Mapquest or Randmcnally it prints out in real small print. It has also done this with some song lyrics that I have tried to print from a website. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

I have a HP printer, and so does my daughter. No problems for either of us.

thirdfrt, I had the same problem with some program, and I posted on here for help. Thanks to the experts here, I was able to fix it. It was some setting. Trouble is, I don't remember the fix. Maybe some one will help you with the problem.

I have a Desk Jet 932C and I have never had a problem with a blue screen.

Thirdfrt on my HP I can click File/Print.... then select Properties and the Effects tab. Now you can play with the setting to fill the page.

I did as you instructed but saw no Effects tab. What I did do was go to file/print preview and clicked on View full width for this page and walla it went back to full width. I thought I clicked on that before but saw no change, but this time it changed it to the full view. This is weird and I have no idea exactly what all I did do. "LOL" I made a boo boo and clicked on something that enlarged this page and I lost my taskpane. So I just kept hitting the backspace button and got rid of it and now everything is back to normal.

Now I just went back into Mapquest and did a print preview and it was once again showing only half the page. It does have a place where you can click on print from their site but I don't know if it will give me all of it. What's up with that? Is this something that Mapquest has set up and keeps my printer from printing out right? Looks like it is doing it in RandMcnally too. Hummmmm I am confused.

I'm not big on printing Zoomed or Shunk images of maps.

Might want to get it in your browser then print screen. Paste as a new image into your graphic editor and try printing from there.

Re: Blue Screen (of death) and HP printers. I have an HP Photosmart 3210 XI All-In-One and it has a glitch with one application. It works with everything else I have. An updated driver did not help, and my queriers were ignored by both HP and MicroSoft. I have discovered a work-a-around.

The Problem:
Windows XP
Office 2000 - buried within Office 2000 is a scaled down version of MicroSoft Photo Editor. The features that it has works very well. If I bring an image into the photo editor and attempt to print it, XP complains of an illegal operation and shuts down the photo editor.

The Work-a-Around:

After the computer has booted and before attempting to print an image from the photo editor, re-install the printer, or install it as another printer and delete the original install. This can be before starting the photo editor or after an image has been loaded into it.

To install: Go to the "control Panel", click, or double click depending on how your computer is set up, on hte "add printer" icon. Follow the instructions in the connection wizard making sure that you choose the port that your printer is connected to. After "finish" of the install, a new printer icon will appear in the printers windows and the newly installed printer will have a check mark indicating it s the default printer. Right click on the old printer icon and delete it. (You probably don't need to uninstall the unused printer connection. I do it to conserve resources.) Close the windows and you are ready to print until the computer is rebooted again. As a bonus, the intall-printer untiltiy will remember all your replies except for the connection port making it short work to reinstall the next time.

Strangely enough, this is the only application I have that exhibits this problem. All others work fine including an ancient version of NetScape.

Have you considered using another photo editing program and avoid that hassle? Irfanview comes to mind as a simple but very effective replacement. If you want something stronger there is Photo Filtre or the super strength Gimp with a large learning curve. All these are free programs and might make your lfe much easier while dealing with photos.

Thankyou very much for your replies. I have updated the driver and now after a few experiments with different photo editing I did discover that seemed to work. Not printing out of the office photo program . I'm not sure what I did though. (I am not computer literate) I think I am ok for now. We'll see. printer is hp psc 2175 all in one.
If I reinstall the printer, do I have to update the driver again?

Maggie if you have to re-install the printer I suspect HP will ask you if you wish to look for updated drivers. If not then it will set itself up to start all the time and seek updates at some point in the future unless you disable the feature.

I deny my HP the right to seek updates because it gets on my nerves keep popping up

Well my problem is solved. I went into the control panel and clicked on Printers and Faxes and found out that there were two 940c printers listed. I talked to my brother in law and he told me to delete all of the printers that had 940c there and then shut down and reinstall it. I was also having a problem with it showing a warning about the ink and I had changed the ink and it was still there. Anyway I removed those printers listed and reinstalled the printer and the computer wizard recognized it and walla the warning was no longer there and when I checked the webpages they were showing the normal size page not half sizes. So by uninstalling it and reinstalling it & rebooting etc it fixed everything. Everything it was showing me before was way off and now everything looks normal again. I am guessing there might have been a conflict going on with two of them listed in there.

I will be able to tell more about it once I start printing out different things. So far so good. "Smiles"
