how do I uninstall HP psc 2170 series printer

My HP psc 2170 series printer will not print. .....

I want to uninstall and re-install, but I can't find where to do it.......The pamphlet says to go to START-- Hewlett- Packard to uninstall but it does not show the printer.

Programs and features on CONTROL PANEL does not show the printer.

Devices and printers has a "remove device"
......... Will that remove all that needs to be uninstalled in order to re-install?

I'm sorry, I have been fooling with this problem all day that my head hurts. The link has too many methods, too many UNINSTALLS, which is what I don't find in my computer. I found it very confusing and not helpful.........Maybe tomorrow, with a clearer head, I can make sense of so much information, I will give it another try, Thanks.

I presume you had a window open up with a heading that said something like: HP Deskjet D1500 Series? If so, there is a menu bar at the top of the window and one of the listings is "Printer." If you click on that, you will likely see a line with a checkmark in front of it that says: "Use printer offline." If you uncheck that line, the printer should go back online and start printing. I have had several HP printers that would occasionally and inexplicably decide to go offline. You are probably doing nothing to cause this, but this is how you can get it going. I don't know of a permanent fix as I tried many things including uninstalling and reinstalling the software...to no avail. If you have closed the window and don't know how to open another one up, just right-click on the printer icon in the task bar on the bottom of the screen, or try printing another document. Try that and report back, please.

Hi. As I mentioned, I did un-install & re-install at least 3 times following the instrux in the manual. No progress. I checked all the connections several times to no avail. Finally, after spending way too much time, I unplugged it from the wall outlet, where it has been plugged in since I got it, and plugged it into the breaker strip, and what do you know, it is now working. I guess the wall plug has gone bad. I don't know how many times my husband went out on a service call, only to find that the appliance wasn't plugged in/turned on. Once again, it was the simple fix. so if you have a problem, do more than just checking for good connection, actually change the outlet. Thanks

Here's my latest attempt. Uninstalled the software everywhere I could find it. Did an Error Check and then a defrag. Rebooted. Downloaded the software again. Disconnected the printer and reconnected it accoriding to instructions on the Quck Start poster that came with my printer. After installation, I did a manual test page, which printed out fine. I made sure the printer is listed as the default. But when I tried yet again to print from a computer file, yet again nothing happened. If I had a cd, I don't now. That's strange because I have the cd for my scanner,which is older than my printer. I also have cd's that came with my first computer, years ago. But no printer cd. There is still an explanation in front of the Printer Port in the DM, and the printer is still not listed there. The link you gave, grandms, didn't help, unfortunately. I will go to the hp site to locate the live person when I have the time to devote to it. I've spent so much time on this, my RL is slipping, and I have to catch up. Thanks to everyone who has tried so hard to help me. If any more ideas occur to anyone, just post it. I'll be checking back here, as I always do. I love this site. Dee

You probably need to clean the contacts inside the printer. Unplug the printer without turning it off (this is to prevent the cartridges going to the idle position). Now remove the cartridge being careful to not touch the copper contacts with your skin. You will need a stack of paper towels or something to place the cartridge on to avoid staining anything with the ink. To clean the contacts, use either q-tips or a bit of coffee filter and some distilled water. You will need to scrub at the copper contacts inside the cartridge area with a slightly dampened q-tip or coffee filter, being careful to not drip water inside the printer or touch any of the contacts with your skin (don't want to spread oils around). Wait 5-10 minutes before reinstalling the cartridge, then plug her in. Just an FYI...HP does support their cartridges even if the printer is out of warranty and would probably walk you through the same steps before replacing the cartridge again. Best of luck, Pam

When using the link Zep provided do not look at everything, instead look down the side for the tutorial covering your operating system.

Then follow along line by line rather than look at everything allowing it to confuse you.

If all else fails do a dirty install and install over top of the existing installation without removing it.

Normally HP uninstalls require using the installation CD, and following the on-screen instructions. When completed I would suggest a followup with CCleaner's registry utility so as to remove any orphaned entries. The uninstall process can be tasking, but it is not difficult.

Uninstalling a HP printer any other way than as directed by HP can cause more trouble than success.

I should have come here yesterday early in the morning. Thank you, thank you. Several times you have helped solve my problems.........I did go to the link again, this time I saw that there was a specific method for Windows 7......I had no idea that installing the disc would have an option for uninstall.......I used the disc..........This old thing prints again

Not every disk has that that option.
