I would not buy this tablet. It uses a rather old version of Android, and the reviews of Nextbooks products on Amazon are generally pretty bad. I know you said you want to spend only $130, but I would urge you to look at getting a quality product for a little more. You can get an Amazon Kindle Fire for $199, and it is far superior to the questionable Nextbook line. Spending $130 on an item you may end up being disappointed in is not a good deal.

I do not want a Kindle, I love Amazon.com but I have no desire to be locked into their books/music/apps etc. I want free access to the world. :)

Those bad reviews are on the Next2 and 3 which are older devices with older Android versions. I could not find any reviews on the Premium 7 on Amazon, but I found pages of comments on them on HSN and most are pleased.

I really don't even want to spend $130, I wish the one I got for Christmas would not have been defective, it was only $89 but their customer support is basically non existent so I opted not to buy another Cruz T103.

The Kindle Fire is not a Kindle per se. Yes, you can use the Fire like a reader, but it is really a full-featured tablet that does what the Nextbook does...only better and faster. If your concern is customer support, you'll get it from Amazon...the reviews for Nextbook are not always encouraging about their customer support or the quality of the product. I still wonder why the Nextbook has the old Android 2.3 system on it. I also see that, for some reason, you can't connect it to the Android Market directly, but are limited to the much smaller SlideMe market.

I'm not trying to shoot you down. It looks like the Nextbook gives you a lot for not much money. It might be just what you need. I'm just pointing out that they've cut corners to be able to offer this so inexpensively, and you could be disappointed in the long run.

Wait android 2.3 is OK it is earlier than that to avoid and the fire runs that version with some amazon changes.
I posted yesterday on the other thread about this nextbook. This is one of their latest models. I think it would definitely be worth a try. It can be returned if you hate it. I have seen favorable reviews for nextbook.
You would never get anything newer than 2.3 for that price. This should be much like my visio but smaller. Many of these tablets have alternate markets.

Just want to clarify that android 3.0 and up are on the much more expensive tablets in the $400 range. The 2.3 will be the same as on android smart phones, also on Amazons fire.

Mine was a so called remanufactured also, it is brand spanking new, perfect, sealed box. I was hesitant but very pleased. I would do the same again. If I could get another for that price I would for my husband, his lookbook is just a reader and he likes the vizio.

Buyorsell I read that review too. Nice info there. I did see this one also has the more powerful 1ghz processor, mine does too and it is extremely snappy. Not dual core but would not expect it at this price range.

And to the fire yes it is as you pointed out Amazon controlled.

The other markets I add to all of mine are easily available I really like the getjar market they have for free many apps that are pay apps on android market, so I check there first.

I went and bought it. They have a generous return policy at Big Lots so I figured what the heck.

I'll report back after I charge it, I assume it needs to be charged before I can do anything with it.

I could not find the Vizio for under $200. I already have a desktop and a 10" netbook, I'm really looking for a souped up eReader rather than an iPad.

I'm impressed already, it comes with a printed manual. I know, I know wastes trees but I'm pushing fifty and I really like having a printed instruction manual.

I've already connected it to my wi fi and corrected the date and time. It is a superior device to the Cruz one I briefly had, lighter and faster.

I will be happy to provide you the links and directions for other markets. I read at one of the Android forums there is a way to get Android market. To use the slide me market that it comes with is simple. Open from the icon find an app you want, I would add other ereader apps, click on the download button, install button, and it will be added to your apps.
My fave reader app is aldiko, look around for more.
Reading the manual Will help.

I have read a long a complicated thread to get Android Market but not sure if I need it or not. I do not give a rip about Angry Birds and that seems to be what all the fuss is about.

My library offers multiple formats for ebooks including epub and kindle.

I do not see a search box in the slide me market which is annoying.

I found Aldiko free and premium for three bucks in the Amazon app store. Does it matter?

Do I need Avast mobile security or whatever it is called?

I am completely clueless.

Free aldiko is fine. You really do not have to have Android market. I would add the getjar market. I also use freewarelovers.com just get the stuff right from the site.

No to avast if you want security go with lookout free if you can not find some thing you want just let me know.

I can sign in to my Google account and I can get to the Android Market and find apps but when I try to download them I get a pop up that says I don't have a mobile device. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to tell Google that I do have an Android device.
I do not have a smart phone and I do not have text messaging on my phone so I do not give them my cell number for password recovery. Is that the problem?

That's why it says no Android market, but I have always found what I needed at other sources.

In addition, there are other app stores, including:

Just bear in mind that these are so-called third party app providers. While there are many good third party apps, you also increase the risk of downloading something with a virus in it when you are not getting apps from the Android Market. So be careful with what you download and check out reviews of other users if possible.

Lastly, download some security software to your tablet. Lookout is a good, free anti-virus app, but I don't know if it is available anywhere but on the Android Market.

I was able to download the Amazon App Market and it does have Lookout so I installed it last night before anything else.

There isn't much on Slide Me.

The only app I knew I wanted that I'm having trouble with is Facebook's. When I signed on to my account it asked me if I wanted to use Facebook for Android and I said yes but it did not download.

Android Market is the only place I've found the Facebook app that is the official one but I can still read my page just not very well in the browser.

I've downloaded Aldiko and Overdrive Media Console (from their website, Aldiko from Amazon)

Overall, I'm very pleased with this device. :)

you need to get the getjar store it does have facebook and lots of the others that are on android market, this is also a safe market which is loaded on many of the android tablets just like slide me is.

Most of these top rated sites are well monitored, if you start trying some of the unknown sites you could run into some bad ones but if you stay in the ones that are highly rated that is the best you can do.

I typed get jar into the browser and downloaded it from their site with no problem. Got Facebook too :-) is there an app to help my stiff fingers type on this thing?

I forgot to mention you should right off go to settings and do a check for updates. Most will have at least one update to do out of the box.

And keep an eye on the manufacturers site for updates and alerts there

I wanted to give an addiction notice I am now very addicted to the silly where's my water game!! I love that gator.

There is a firmware update for serial numbers that are older than mine but mine comes with the update done already. I checked :) I understand some did not connect to wi fi without the update.

I do not play any computer games. I'm just not interested. Used to work in a mall and boss owned a video arcade too and I could play for free and never did. Not interested in Wii or PS or any of it. I can spend plenty of time online without gaming....:D

I got a kindle fire for Christmas. It does all you want and more and for $199 I am completely happy with it and there is not one thing I don't like about it. Use it more than the laptop now to just get on and check email and read the few message boards I visit plus have played games and watched some movies because you get a free 30 day trial of amazon prime with it. The browser is really fast and works well and the email app on it works well too. Mary
