Eagle windows/doors installed w/o drip cap!!!!!
Comments (3)You should be fine installing the drip edge right now, then stucco over the drip edge. The most important thing is to have the drip edge underneath the outter most layer of siding material, which is stucco in your case....or soon to be stucco. For instance, if you had shingle siding, you would need to take the shingles off that are above windows/doors, install the drip edge, then place the shingles. Last step is applying a goog amount of silicone caulk where the siding meets the drip edge. Maybe the installers just assumed the stucco guys would installed the drip edges above all doors and windows?...See MoreMarvin or Eagle Replacement Windows??
Comments (23)To Jamie, just to inform you Eagle is a window manufacturer, they do not come to your house and produce quotes. The sizes came from who ever was your salesman/contractor or installer. They measured wrong, then had to eat the custom made windows when they came in. Then had to reorder the right size windows. NO WAY would they have come in (expedited) that adds another 30% to the cost and your contractor was not going to eat that. On the Eagle replacement window they are ordered a bit different than a vinyl replacement window, and someone learned a hard lesson. Please don't blame Eagle unless you know what you are talking about. We have been selling them for 30 + years and never had an order problem from Eagles side. Comments (63)I'll just make a couple general comments: 1) For the record, my Eagle casements and awnings have been excellent. Installed in 2010 there have had zero issues. That said, when the framer was ready to install I had the Eagle representative inspect the installation of the first window and explain in detail how they needed to be installed. I think that was critical. 2) Not all window designs are the same and although there are general "good practice" installation guidelines like mentioned earlier, each manufacturer has a specific set of installation requirements. It's hard to find framers that know every window, and unfortunately many don't read the enclosed installation protocol. It's my belief that much of the window failures come from not following the manufacturers procedure. Of course, any window can't be expected to survive a faulty architectural design. And when you do have failure, you have the trifecta of blame of the manufacturer, builder (framer), and architect, which usually gets ugly with the client held hostage. I hope this ends happily. Just watch out where the blame is laid....See MoreEagle Windows or Marvin Integrity
Comments (10)Tempered/Safety glass requirement on a Double hung window. We have a couple windows less than 18" from the floor. However the way we are reading the code we woudl not need tempered glass. As we do not meet all 4 requirements under Section 7 or R308.4 ( The square footage of the individual pane is less than 9 sq ft) or are we reading this wrong. We have asked our Marvin dealer without any reply and have also reached out to our Architect as he did not denote the windows to require Tempered Glass Is each Sash is own individual pane or do both sash's get added together?...See MoreEpiarch Designs
