Can't get Firefox to load

I have used Firefox for years with no problems. Now I can't even get it to load. When I click the FF icon, it freezes up my computer and I have to reboot it.

I can go into Internet Explorer with no problems at all. I need to use FF as that's where all my bookmarks are and I can't get to them. I tried uninstalling FF from the Control Panel and reinstalled it, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Firefox has its own "safe mode" might want to try it this will tell you if an add-on is causing a problem here is how to access safe mode in firefox:

Click start>Programs> now look for (Mozilla) put your mouse over mozila to the right in a drop down thing click firefox (safe mode) see if will start this way.

owbist,this is what I done yesterday .It is good exercise for my memory problem to learn to use another browser. Just glad it's a Firefox glitch & not my computer or a dreaded virus. rose

Go to top of page, View, Page Source, then do a "find" putting in ONE of the main words of "input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" and you'll find this sentence!!! What would that mean?" That means that's part of the page. It's needed in the form that displays on the actual page, but for some reason, it is showing up as text and not as part of the form. "Couldn't have been the server--was using the laptop using wireless connection to the desk pc at the same time & it loads just fine & quickly." Do you mean that your network at home is set up so that the desktop connects to the internet and you're using ICS to share the connection with the laptop? And it loads for the laptop but not the desktop? That's very odd. Even if I misunderstood you're connecting both through the router, that would mean that the laptop works fine with the same connection. Somebody else already asked this, but are you using the same browser and same version on both? Are there any other sites that give the desktop trouble? I didn't see anything in the html that looked like it would cause problems for any browsers.

It sounds like your "Add-Ons" dialog box launched on the 'Get Add-Ons' tab. Did you check Extensions or Plug-Ins? That should also be listed on the Sidebar.

Oh absolutely you need to do those other updates, adobe and java are so important to keep updated, the worst infections we see these days come from not having updated those items. For flash you must install it on each of the browsers on your pc, there's a special version for IE, and the non Ie version for the others like firefox and chrome etc, if you need help with any of these please ask, but by all means do those updates as soon as they come out. Be sure you only have the latest version of java get rid of the old versions. When they put out updates it is almost always due to a security issue.
