Remodeled Powder Room with Kitchen Leftovers

I wasn't going to post these, but I saw the thread about people not often sharing pictures of their remodeled bathrooms....Sooooo...

This Powder Room was an afterthought. We used leftover granite and backsplash from our kitchen remodel. Then we purchased the least expensive vanity, sink, light, and faucet we could find, since we were tapped out from the kitchen. The toliet was the most pricey thing, on the advice from our GC. It's difficult to take pictures in such a tiny room but I hope you get the idea..

Nice bathroom! I like the contrast between the delicatus granite countertop and the vanity.

1) How do you rate the master bath vanity from HD? What depth is the vanity?

2)Is the mirror a matching mirror from the same line as the vanity? How did you decide the size? It looks a little longer than the vanity?

I have been looking at vanities, but haven't settled on one just yet. I, too, have a small space to work with. Because of depth to the door, I need to be careful that if there are drawers in the vanity that they can be opened.

It looks like your bathroom is a total home run!

What did you use for the flooring?

Thank you karena:) To answer your questions...

1. I am pleased with the vanity as far as quality. It is basic but nicely made. It is 33 inches wide, and 21 1/2 inches deep.

2. The mirror was not part of the line. We stumbled upon it at Home Depot. The price $30!! Such a bargin we didn't care that it was a little wider than the vanity. It doesn't bother me, but I know it might bother some.

3. The flooring is Pergo Select Red Praire Pine. I have it just about everywhere in my home.

LOL..raenjapan you are right, the wallpaper was pretty awful! I've still got the rest of the whole house to strip 1980s wallpaper from, but at least we have made a good start with the kitchen area. It is so nice to finally see the changes! Thanks for all the kind comments on the new powder room. The paint color made all the difference, in my opinion. We used the same color to accent the area behind the windows in the kitchen and the recessed area around the butler pantry. The paint was Behrs Currant Jam ICC-83. We bought it at Home Depot. Here is the formula mix they used: We used the same color around the kitchen windows: And also in the recessed area around the butler pantry, which is just a little way from the powder room in the kitchen. After living with all that wallpaper for 20 years it is so nice to have painted walls now!

Thanks for the replies. I finally found a real solid black but in a odd size -- Daltile has an unpolished (not shiny) jet black tile in 24"x12" size. I was so happy, but then I see you replies about how the charcoal looks good. Now I'm doubting myself. :( The vanity top will be black galaxy polished, and the wall color I'm aiming for a warm gold. Here is a pic of the design that inspired this remodel: http://www.hgtvpro.com/hpro/photo_template/article/0,3140,HPRO_28216_6027344_10,00.html. I'm going for that similar wall color. Yay, another full day off to work on remodeling! We finished up the last 20 square feet of tiling, and I'll do the final grout tomorrow. I put the baseboards in the laundry room part, and here's how it looks, before and after. The before doesn't show the floor, but it was the same gray berber carpet you see in other photos. How nice to finally have tile! In addition to the tile, the walls are now a soft cheery yellow instead of grayish-off-white. The cupboards have been banished to the garage. I decided the powder room paint wouldn't do, so I went paint shopping and bought a sample (Lowe's now sells 7-oz trial cans). I liked it much better, so I went back and bought a gallon, but when I put it on, it turned out it was a different color from the trial one (more butterscotch than pumpkin). Here's the confused wall with original bright yellow on the right, final color on the bottom and trial color on the top left. I actually liked the butterscotch more than the trial pumpkin, so we stuck with it. I cut the baseboards and DH worked on installing the toilet and vanity, cutting the feet down on the back and trimming the baseboard around the edge of the vanity trim. (Thanks to those who helped out with ideas how to make that fit.) Here's how it now looks! We're still waiting for the faucet to arrive (online purchase), so I'll post the final photos when we get it in. We just need to finish up the last of the grout, install the casings, do a bunch of caulking and we're done!

Thanks for your help petra! I could be completely off on my counter size. Let's see if I can explain it. It's a cross between a U and an L (I know that doesn't make sense!) I have a 10"W counter then my normal slide in stove/oven then 32" to the wall. The counter takes it's turn at 7 1/2". Then this is the longest one 137" wall to wall. The side counter is 71" wall to wall, taking it's turn at 24 1/2". Kinda resembles this: ] with the small stove area at the top and the bottom length extended out for the side counter. We also have a small desk drawer area across the room which will need a 21"W x 21 1/2"D area covered. I have no idea what size our slabs are! Guess I need to find that out. We are installing "Oyster Pearl" from Mont Granite (mid-west, ohio area. We are in Indianapolis) Not the lowest basic granite but not exotic or high end, either. It is a high grey intensity with cream, black and brown. No backsplash, we are tiling from counter to cabinets. I thought the Rojo was high, also. It's not normally used (at least I never see it mentioned here) but it's not exotic either. Our vanity is old but in great shape and has a built in hamper, so we are keeping it. It is 53 1/2". I really appreciate you taking the time to help me understand this, Thanks! I will assume from your screen name that you are in the granite business? :)

Thank you...I know it's pretty simple compared to some of the bathrooms on this forum. I'm just so dang happy that I thought of using the extra granite and not letting it go to waste!

minette...I'm pretty sure I got the towel holder at Bed Bath and Beyond. But it was a loooonnnng time ago....

Great job! It would have been a shame to let any of that gorgeous granite go to waste.

At our prior house, we also had a bathroom re-do that was inspired by leftover granite from the kitchen. We didn't want to waste any, so our granite guy polished the edges of the oval cutouts from the bathroom sinks for a small fee, and we use them as cheese boards.

Love, love, LOVE your bath! You say it's not as fancy as some others, but fancy schmancy....it is absolutely beautiful. Esp. considering the cost. You were truly creative and ended up with a stunning bath.

Love that granite, Delicatus white. You got it at a stone yard, I guess? It would look nice in MY kitchen. :)

Love the remodel, brilliant job. I certainly doesn't look like an afterthought!

Question for you. I am in the middle of my kitchen/bath remodel, and I have selected and paid for my granite. But my fabricators are charging me for the square footage that I will use, not for the entire slabs. Did you purchase entire slabs? That is how you had extra? I wonder if I could purchase left overs I would like the color in my bathroom.

Very nice. I do love your kitchen, especially the cabinets and the marble backsplash. Weren't you ingenious to use your kitchen leftovers? I still have a boatload of tumbled travertine tires in my garage left from the kitchen. Maybe I'll sell them on Craig's List.

Kitchenaddict, that is one gorgeous kitchen! Beautiful materials choices, and I love the way your counters and cabinets curve around the bump and back towards your peninsula Â it just gives it a different look than the usual straight run. How long is your peninsula?

Semi, with our granite, we paid the slab yard directly for the slabs, so we owned the entire slabs. We then paid the fabricator/installer a labor charge for making and installing the kitchen counters. When we saw we had enough left over for the bathrooms, we paid the fabricator a separate labor charge for the bathroom counters.

Semi- We also paid for the slabs directly...same as kaysd.

dedtired- Unless you can think of a way to use the travertine, I think Craig's list is a great idea. I never have bought or sold anything on Craig's list, but so many others use it....another great idea!

kaysd- The reason our counters curve around is because that area use to be a bumped-out breakfast nook. The peninsula use to come straight out like they usually do, only it came out right into where the refridgerator is. We couldn't even open our fridge door all the way. So this was a way to enlarge the floor space of the kitchen.

Our peninsula is 8 ft. long by 3 ft wide. I didn't think it was going to be very large, but it seems massive to me.
