If it were me, Being that past the tub you only have a wainscot, I'd be using surface bullnose (as opposed to a wrap around cap type mud bullnose). I'd bring it out to being just a hair past flush with the sheetrock, and then use Durabond to finish off the edge of the mud bed, basically screading off the edge of the bullnose. I would certainly use a fiberglass mesh tape to bridge that joint between the sheetrock and mud to keep it from cracking.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping to end the tile short of the corner, about 1/2". Would I be able to run a strip of drywall along the corner and use a corner bead, either metal or paper, to finish off the wall? The mud would butt up against the drywall strip and the transition would be bridged by the tile.

The secret is in using a J bead and some extra back framing. With a little water proofing you can turn the J Bead into a capillary break as well.
