Liebherr Integrated 24in Fridge/Freezer - Anyone Have One Or Two?

I've read through most of the Liebherr posts here and have decided to plan for two 24" integrated fridge/freezer units in our new home. They won't be next to each other, but they'll have a 48" counter in between them, which will be our grocery landing spot as well.

We used to have a 42" built-in GE Monogram and now have a 36" built-in KitchenAid (way too small!) I've never had anything but SBS and I like that the 24" Liebherr has a bottom freezer door instead of a drawer (for organizational purposes). Thought about just getting a 48" built-in, but those have less fridge and more freezer (which we don't need) and I do like the look of the integrated model better.

I also must admit that I'm somewhat enamored with the cubed (not crescent!) ice in the Liebherrs. :)

For those of you who have one (or two)...do you love 'em? Is there anything about them you dislike? If you have two, are they together or separate? Any feedback specific to the 24" Liebherrs is much appreciated! :)

We have one of the 24" fully integrated Liebherrs adjacent to a 30" Thermador Freedom refrigerator. The Liebherr was installed in September '09.

Yes, we love it, although the best thing about this refrigerator is that I don't even notice it's there most of the time: it's dead quiet. Since we have a full freezer in our lower level, we didn't feel the need to have much freezer space in the kitchen, although I am surprised just how much we can stuff into those three freezer drawers. Sometimes I cram in so much that it's a bit difficult to open and close the freezer drawers, but that's entirely on me.

The Liebherr has become what we call our "condiment refrigerator." It holds MANY bottles plus extra milk, eggs, seltzer, and the like. I will say that right after it was installed, I was a bit disconcerted by the condensation running down the back wall even though I knew it was part of the refrigerator's normal operation. I have not noticed much, if any, moisture on that wall for quite some time which may be because most of what we store in the Liebherr is sealed.

All in all, I am very happy with it, especially since it was a floor model that we purchased at a deep discount.

Thanks, stei7141...and lucky you to get one at such a discount! I'm glad to hear about the quietness...we also built and sold a home with two 36" Northlands and those were the noisiest things!

We do have a lot of condiments, so that's good news that the Liebherr is good for bottle storage.

The one thing I may miss (depending upon the height of the freezer drawers) is the ability to store stemware in the freezer. We do love our chilled glasses, but I guess I would just buy shorter glasses if needed! :)

It's odd. I actually just revisited the design guides Liebherr publishes for the built-in and integrated options, and the language on top ventilation is almost identical Both state that "there must be a ventilation space at least 31 in. (200 cm) at the airÃ¯Â¬Âow inlet (1) and at the airÃ¯Â¬Âow outlet (2)," and that the top vetilation can be directed (a) directly over the appliance through a vent/grill, (b) above the cabinet and below the ceiling, or (c) through a vent in a soffit. The ONLY difference is that for some reason the built-in references only venting directly above the unit using the "optional factory air vent," while the integrated says you can use " an optional factory air vent or custom made one using the template supplied with the unit." Realistically, it looks like the major difference in appearance between the two options is that built in has the vent at the base as part of the unit, fairly large and prominent, and integrated has a smaller grill or opening you can put in your own toekick. It seems that folks with the counter depth, french door models seem to be having significant reliability issues (mostly with water and ice dispensers) - have any of you had these with the all fridge, all freezer models? How difficult is it to keep the stainless reasonably clean? I had my heart set on a fridge/freezer with custom panels but it's an area we are tring to save money in the kitchen (the Thermador would have been $9000 plus the custom panels, Subzero was over 12K plus the panels!). Finally - I'm having trouble figuring out the difference between the Electrolux and Electrolux Icon models, other than about $450! The sales people haven't been particularly helpful either, they are just reading off the same sheet I am. Thanks for any input!

Some reviews indicate problems with Subzero, but my 48" side-by-side is sixteen years old and still running. The interior organization seems more substantial and functional than the comparable Liebherr models, but that's just personal preference. The Subzero wine storage models are noisy. Liebherr's wine storage unit (HWS 1800 I think) is much quieter according to my appliance rep. Also gives you more flexibility because it can be integrated into cabinets (see link). "I don't understand the french door thing. Why have to open two doors? It has an application in kitchens with small aisles, I guess, but I dunno - I'd rather have the aisle spaced correctly. The ones with the big trays across the bottom are the worst to me." LOL - side by side fridges are basically French Door fridges - it's just the freezer is one side and the fridge is another - get an old school fridge with the freezer on top or bottom with one door the entire width of the fridge and I don't care how big your kitchen is, you will be desiring side by side or french door for the half-width doors. Also, if you prefer a side by side, why would you have to open both doors on a french door fridge? Your already used to accessing the fridge through a narrow door anyway :o) The side by side fridge I have came with my house - otherwise I would never own one. You can't put in odd-ball sized stuff, and normal stuff doesn't even fit well. It has allot less drawer space than the Samsung freezer on the bottom I had in my town house, and my Samsung was the smaller 18 cubic foot and my side by side is 25.5! To me, a side by side is like a 1500 square foot two story house vs. a 1500 square foot ranch. Theoretically they are the same square footage, but in the two story you loose space to stairs and hallways - not nearly as much actual usual space. I too have an extra chest freezer, but as others stated I would have one anyway. I have a foodsaver and I'm not afraid to use it. I buy things in bulk, on sale, and freeze them routinely. I wish I could find a fridge with a single height freezer drawer for quick access to the stuff I use regularly and the rest dedicated to fridge space. That would be ideal. Indeed, if I ever remodel my kitchen I'm seriously considering putting a fridge only in where my side by side is and a single freezer drawer (if they make such a thing? Surely someone does) in my island. I'd gladly sacrifice a little cabinet space for some more fridge space. I guess if you don't cook at home often, or eat that many fresh fruits or vegetables it's less important, but I never seem to have enough fridge space.

Interesting that you opt out of the drawer freezer.
I was looking at 2 24" but the 36" had the freezer drawers.
Also, adding the 24" cubic capacity, the 36" actually had more storage (if you go by the numbers)...so that is where I am leaning. I don't know the difference between integrated or not. The 36" is counter depth...that is the only requirement DH has.

wallycat, integrated means that after installing your custom cabinet panels, the unit will virtually look like cabinetry. This means that they are also "built-in" as opposed to "freestanding".
