Shower pan failure - can Art Deco tile be rescued?

Shower pan in 1930s shower stall requires replacing, and in addition to losing the B/W basketweave tile floor, I am advised that at least two courses of the mud-set crazed green tile will have to be removed, IOW destroyed. Is there any method of removal that could save them? If my only recourse is to gut the shower, how do I find a Kerdi expert in the DC area. Everyone I've talked to thus far only installs membrane shower pans, and with two exterior walls involved, Kerdi sounds like a better alternative.
