How high for decorative Border

I have moved drains, vents, new electrical and been kerdied, now it is time for tile. I want to add a glass tile border around the room, How high should it go? I am thinking above the vanity but above the switches so it does not interrupt the flow (and I don't have to cut a glass tile). How did you determine the height?

It goes wherever you want it to go! Usually, that's somewhere between 36 and 48", but I've seen decorative stripes as high as 6'. The biggest thing to think about is you want it to be as visible as possible. That usually means with the least obstructions possible. You don't want switches and plugs falling into the stripe. You also don't want it cutting out for the vanity, or anything else, if possible, and if it DOES have to cut out for say, something like a mirror, you want it to COMPLETELY cut out, rather than having to cut the stripe around it.

Also check out your valves in the shower if it going to continue there and windowsill height. Tub/shower surround can continue higher than rest of it and create visually wholeness to the room as well. Also keep in mind if you going to place hollow chair rail piece- it looks much better when it has chance to end at the inside corner as opposite to outside corner. You can make cardboard samples and place it on the walls figuring out what works best for your layout.

Can you lean some tile up against the wall so you can see how it looks? I would NOT be in favor of interrupting your mosaics with receptacles. What I have seen done and plan to do myself is turn the receptacles 90 degrees, so that they are horizontal the long way. Your plans that don't involve moving the receptacles might work, too. I think you should do a mock-up.

It's a custom Inset vanity (Cherry/one piece) made by a friend who I went to high school with (his family owns a cabinetry business). My remodel was done on a budget. I'm in a 90s builder grade home, so nothing fancy. Floor tile came from Lowes. Mosaic tile was ordered from Overstock.com (I think it was about $13 sq ft - so nothing super expensive). The larger tile in the shower is faux marble and it came from the Tile Shop (it was special order, but was affordable too). Vanity top is Hanstone white quartz - it was a remnant piece I found at a stone yard.

I apologize for the mismatched photos - we just bought the place at the beginning of this month so everything is EVERYWHERE haha I have definitely considered the larger tv - I never though I’d have to convince the husband to get a bigger tv lol It’s super bright in the room / some photos were taken in the evening / with the curtains closed / on rainy days Moving the tv would mean moving the all mount and the bolts on that thing are massive - repainting isn’t on our list right now as the previous owner painted every. wall. In the house that blue colour so that would mean creating a colour scheme and I don’t have the patience for a whole do-over right now Thanks for all the advice!!

I guess your plants don't need a lot of light, but they would have more impact if all gathered in the corner where you have the chair and against the stark end wall of the stairwell. The bench you have for a coffee table could hold a lot of plants at the end of the stair wall. Your end tables will be fine for holding plants, but they are too short and pushed too far back to be useful for anyone sitting on the the sofa. Try putting your shoe rack against that end of the sofa near the door. I wonder if your bright geometric would look good by the door. It would bring a lighted feeling to that darkest corner, and it is a little too wide for the sofa; stick to 75% of the sofa's width for art above it. I believe in decorating where the people are, below the 9-ft. level. If that is done well, the eyes tend to stay fixed on that and not the high ceiling. Some more lighting in the form of floor lamps and uplights under the plants would add life and interest.

Thanks to lindalana and tile god "bill v" I am more than ready for the use of this main bath again. I hate to show pics in progress as they can scare the faint of heart so here are my BEFORE pics and I'll be back to post the finished product in the Gallery in a few more weeks. I'll take some pics tonight and print in black & white then draw on a few borders to get it right. I do have a window so I may have to go around it to make it look right.

How elegant that is going to be!

I'm just about to start on Bathroom #1 (out of three), and I'm beginning to get cold feet and thinking an acrylic surround would be so easy (and easy to clean), but then I see tile choices like you've just made, and it looks so cool...
