thassos floor in guest bath - is this stupid?
Comments (10)Thanks Becky, I have a messy little family myself. I'm not sure how we're going to keep up on these materials. I can say now that sealing everything is a breeze. I asked the installer to do it and then I've done it twice myself since. So, nothing's finished yet, some are closer than others though....... none have mirrors, towel bars, etc. My daughter's bathroom (the cave o' limestone) Guest Bath No one that has seen this floor likes it but it's my favorite thing in the house. Master bath Manhattan 1920s hotel with a cottage twist (weird, I know, but it's a farm in NJ) See. I LOVE hex too (this one's calacatta gold, honed). I originally had it on the main bathroom floor but the install was so bad I had to have it ripped out and was rushed to choose something so I went with 12x12s. I really like them though. Makes the room feel bigger than it is. Another bit of maintenance for me... So, I went for the gusto even when I had that nagging voice that it wasn't practical. I really do like to have a few things nice enough to need a bit of babying. I'm willing to do it, I hope I'm still willing after I move in though :)...See MoreThassos marble in bathroom?
Comments (18)I wish I'd gotten pictures of it-- years ago, I worked for a guy in southern Florida, and we did a house in Coral Gables where the entire master bathroom was CLEAR thassos-- no veining, whatsoever-- it looked like the white version of absolute black. 10 foot high walls, floors, shower floor to ceiling (floor got cut up into 3x3 squares).... This bathroom was bright white and looked sharp as hell..... when we finished with it. I have no idea how long that lasted, but I know we were all commenting on how we'd hate to be on the cleaning staff there....See MoreThassos tile questions for wall and floor..
Comments (9)The tile in the shower is a product from artistic tile called Bee Bop white (even though there are three distinct shades of glass mosaic). There is a mirror (for shaving) in the frame of thassos marble. We used a highly textured Carrera marble on the floor with an infinity drain. These pictures aren't great. I will use a proper camera and try again....See MoreIs it OK to extend the 18"x18" floor tiles into shower?
Comments (6)Thank you all for your comments. I've seen so many beautiful photos on Houzz of the curbless walk-in shower, and am both inspired and envious. @Sophie Wheeler, you are absolutely correct in that I lack understanding on how showers are planned. Thank you for providing your additional guidance. My contractor stated that I would need the curb for the reasons you stated, but I really wanted to see if I could get around it. I was hoping to have a curbless shower so that a wheelchair could be wheeled in, if necessary, but the size of my bathroom, and the expense to make it a "wet room" makes this prohibited. I will go with the 2"x2" mosaic tile, and with the curb. Thank you everyone for taking the time to offer your expertise. I will provide before and after photos when done. Have a great day!...See Morejjaazzy
