Help from experts - Does Kerdi replace floating a shower?

Hi All - been mostly lurking since nothing to post, but now I have a question that needs an expert's answer. We have come to the point in our build where they have finished drywall, so now we must decide which route to go for our showers in the house (we have 4). So our builder said that floating a shower is the way to go, but when we shopped for tile we were introduced to Kerdi boards and I've seen them on Mike Holmes show :-). So, are Kerdi cement boards the way to go? Will they cost us much more than doing a floating shower? Also, I am in the San Jose Bay Area - California, can someone recommend a person/company that specializes in floating the shower, without doing the tile work? We have a tile guy already, and he says that floating the shower part he is slow at, and our builder says there are a couple places in the area that will float the shower without doing the tile. Sorry - so many questions. Thanks! Jenny
