oven capacity questions
Comments (14)I too am wondering about gas versus dual fuel. Will also have a wall oven so was thinking could do all gas for range and electric for wall oven. Just a bit of feedback on Viking and Wolf. I have two sisters and we all love to cook. One of my sisters has a Viking cook top and wall ovens, the other has a Wolf range and a Dacor wall oven. The one with Viking is very unhappy with both. She bought these after replacing Dacor wall ovens that she had some issues with. The Viking wall ovens were over $7K and have been nothing but a problem. She has been without them since just after Thankgiving and finally had a service call last week which was useless. The service man spent over 3 hours on them and couldn't fix them. Only managed to break her cabinetry. She now wishes she'd never replaced her Dacor ovens. She also has a Viking cook top and is very unsatisfied. It does not simmer well and doesn't always light quickly. Having used these in her home has convinced me that Viking is out of the question however not sure what the "new" Viking is. Now about the Wolf range. My sister's is dual fuel and quite beautiful however she told me today that if she had to to it all over again she wouldn't buy the Wolf because it takes way too long to boil water. She is very happy with her Dacor wall oven and was surprised to hear that two dealers I spoke with discouraged me from buying Dacor due to maintainence issues. The more I read about the Blue Star, the more I like it. Only challenge is that I was convinced on the GE Monogram Wall oven and now not so sure it will look good with the Blue Star....See MoreWhich is easier to clean porcelain or stainless steel cooktop
Comments (1)XO, Neither. If you want low maintenance you should look at induction....See MoreMiele vs Samsung vs BlueStar vs Wolf Induction Cooktops + Service
Comments (44)So, time to chime in here. I went with the Blue Star 36" induction cook top 2 years ago. Looks great, LOVED the knobs, worked fantastic... for about 18 months. I'll note that unlike their other products it only has a 1 year warranty. First, the two rightmost burners started indicating they were overheating when the central burner was in use (and the rightmost were not). I reset the system at the breaker per the manual and it rand great for three weeks with a hitch, then the central and right top burner cut out entirely. Three days later they came back, but wouldn't heat above level 7 (out of 10). I had (or so I thought) the good sense to get an extended warranty, but after getting a service guy out here the warranty company informs me it will cost more to fix than I paid in the first place, so they're going to cash me out. Blue Star may be good in other areas (no experience here), but based on my experience with this one, I don't think they have enough time making this product to reach their usual degree of reliability. Addendum: looks like Blue Star (when I bought it) had a narrower cut out (18") than anything currently on the market, including their own product. At least it looks like they're learning from past mistakes......See MoreBosch black vs stainless cooktop - easy to clean? goes w/stainless?
Comments (5)I want a gas cooktop (not induction), so the black would be a bit larger with the grates than a flat induction top. Here is a photo from Bosch of the gas cooktop with an oven below it. The photo has a black stainless steel oven - my question is what would it look like as a regular stainless steel oven. (I realize that the colors of the cabinets, countertop, and backsplash would influence how well it would go together - these details are not yet determined.) @User - thank you for the photo - even though induction tops are smooth, it is useful. I like the installation in the Bosch picture (below) with the countertop dividing the cooktop and oven (instead of a wider wood panel. @cefi - thank you for the photo. Yours and Suzanne's both suggest that the black glass oven door would resonate with the black cooktop, to make create some resonance (I think??). @Shannon_WI - I don't have space for 36". I realize that a wall oven under the counter is low, but this one (Bosch photo) seems a little hither than most. I did find out the Bosch cooktop is porcelain, so it would be much easier to clean than stainless steel cooktops (or range tops). All the gas ranges and cooktops seem to be stainless steel - yes, they look nice - but there are many comments about how hard they are to clean, and they scratch, which is why I am hoping for a porcelain top under the burners. If I can't make it work with Bosch (cooktop and oven), then KitchenAid would be the other option (slide-in range) as it is stainless with a porcelain top, but everything else would be Bosch....See Morejadeite
