Bosch black vs stainless cooktop - easy to clean? goes w/stainless?

What is the Black Bosch cooktop made of? Is it porcelain or enamel, or something else? Is it easier to clean than stainless steel tops? I'm considering NGM8046UC. I've heard the stainless steel tops scratch and can be hard to clean. (I have a GE range now with a black porcelain top - easy to clean, no scratching. I can't find info on what the Bosch surface is.)

Also, I'm considering the black cooktop with a Bosch stainless steel oven below it under the counter. Would this look odd? I'll also have a stainless fridge and hood. If the Black cooktop is easier to clean, I'd prefer that over stainless, but I can't quite picture how it would look with otherwise stainless steel appliances. (I haven't decided on cabinet or counter colors now, but I wanted to try to keep the kitchen fairly light, so I don't want black appliances other than the cooktop.)

Yes it will look odd, though not because of the finish. A wall oven is meant to be installed in a wall at a height so that it is easily accessible. A wall oven the way you’ve described will be so low that the door will practically touch the floor. Why not get a range if you want an oven directly below the cooktop? A range will save you a lot of money over separate oven and cooktop.

I also would not get a gas cooktop that is 30” wide which is what the NGM8046UC is. That is because the knobs take up so much room, the pots are crowded. I’d suggest either a 36” cooktop or a 30” range.

My appliances are all stainless steel. My range is a Samsung induction cooktop (easiest thing that I have ever had to clean)! I am attaching a photo so that you are able to envision a black cooktop with stainless.

I had a Thermador stainless gas cooktop for 18 years and it wasn't difficult to clean. However after a number of years the stainless area underneath the burner discolored due to the high heat. Thermador told me that this was normal. Four years ago we remodeled and I picked a Dacor gas cooktop with a black porcelain top. The black porcelain is still black of course, but there are some small spots around the burners. I think it's where little spots of grease burned on. They don't just wipe off but I've used a degreaser to minimize them. Now I also have a GE gas black glass cooktop at my vacation home. Now that I've discovered CeramaBryte I don't hate it as much as I used to. But remember shiny black glass will show dust! So you have to use a microfiber cloth on it every day to remove the dust. The CeramaBryte is a great cleaner/polisher. It actually helps keep the top clean. What's the perfect finish? If someone here knows please tell me.

donnakay2009- I have to tell you, we inherited the range from the previous owners, and it looked fab, was thrilled I was getting a nice late model range... then... I will tell you my huge pet peeves with this thing: the darn broiler will not turn on unless the top oven is completely heated up- why? why can't I just brown the top of something? I actually thought it was broken, and was about to call Maytag, when I stumbled on the explanation. Sigh. also, the darn larger burner is next to the regular burners, rather than next to the simmer burner. so when I am trying to use my very large saute pan and boil a large pot of water, they can't fit... but had the burners been the other way around... And of course there is the cleaning. I don't know. I have been tempted to replace it, but that is not happening. Where I live, we have to have propane (no natural gas) or electric, so I am actually just so very grateful that I do have a gas range. When it is in use, it does work very nicely, and I an pleased with the actual cooking and the oven/ even baking. I am a huge baker and it does a very nice job for me, and my roasts, especially at holiday time, always come out perfect, absolutely perfect, and it's not even convection. Back to the OP, Still would choose stainless. Actually- GE makes a really nice line where you can even choose stainless, black, duel fuel, convection, single or double oven.... a very affordable piece with any bell or whistle combination you may want!

The one thing I didn't hate about the cooktop that came with the house was the porcelain enamel finish, compared with the new stainless. The porcelain was very easy to clean. You can clean the heck out of stainless, but it seems to hold onto gunk harder and require more work to clean. If you're a banger, however, and drop a lot of heavy stuff, chipping might be an issue again, which you don't get with stainless. Basically, both are good.

It's the "black glaze" part that I'd eliminate. Glazing like that has a tendency to make the cabinet just look shabby and old. There's enough going on with the gray stain on the wood, no need for glaze too. You also better make sure you will be comfortable with the variegations in the wood which will come to the surface with that wash. See on the sample pic you posted of the Snowbank door how the vertical, horizontal, and center panel pieces look so different from each other? Make sure you see it IRL and imagine that all over your kitchen. Some people--maybe you--might say "how charming, I love that". Others might not. Which one are you?

Here’s the Bosch. It’s very easy to clean with Weiman Glass Cooktop cleaner.

I want a gas cooktop (not induction), so the black would be a bit larger with the grates than a flat induction top. Here is a photo from Bosch of the gas cooktop with an oven below it. The photo has a black stainless steel oven - my question is what would it look like as a regular stainless steel oven. (I realize that the colors of the cabinets, countertop, and backsplash would influence how well it would go together - these details are not yet determined.)

@User - thank you for the photo - even though induction tops are smooth, it is useful. I like the installation in the Bosch picture (below) with the countertop dividing the cooktop and oven (instead of a wider wood panel.

@Connie Elaine's Draperies - thank you for the photo. Yours and Suzanne's both suggest that the black glass oven door would resonate with the black cooktop, to make create some resonance (I think??).

@Shannon_WI - I don't have space for 36". I realize that a wall oven under the counter is low, but this one (Bosch photo) seems a little hither than most.

I did find out the Bosch cooktop is porcelain, so it would be much easier to clean than stainless steel cooktops (or range tops). All the gas ranges and cooktops seem to be stainless steel - yes, they look nice - but there are many comments about how hard they are to clean, and they scratch, which is why I am hoping for a porcelain top under the burners. If I can't make it work with Bosch (cooktop and oven), then KitchenAid would be the other option (slide-in range) as it is stainless with a porcelain top, but everything else would be Bosch.

We got a Bosch 800 Series Gas Slide-in 30'' Black Stainless Steel range and it is IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP CLEAN. We've tried everything..

.

Love the way it looks, love the way it cooks, but it's just not worth it if you need to spend a half hour after every meal just on the stovetop.
