High-end oven question: Who makes the best convection ovens?
Comments (67)Speak for yourself, Homechef! I always noticed and worked with the temperatures in my old ovens! S What!, the microwave is good for a fast heat of a single thing at a time. For reheating mixed foods or several portions nothing beats a steam oven! Kim Laden, those instructions are shocking! I understand choosing an oven if there are two timers. The rest sounds like they didn't even test it during the design phase. Like with someone who cooks dinner. What model were you looking at? I just had to see for myself and looked up the manuals at AJMadison (which loads faster than Bosch): Bosch Benchmark Series HBLP651UC The kitchen timer can also be set by pressing the clock/timer touchpad at the left of the control panel. The timer input “00:00” value blinks in the center of the display. Enter the desired timer value with the numeric touchpads and press “Enter” to start the timer Bosch Benchmark Series HBLP651LUC Sideswing is the same. Cancel by touching the kitchen timer softkey or opening the door. That's the part I don't like. Losing the timer when you open the door. But that might mean that the sound of a finish timer ends then, not that it resets. I don't know. One could ask the forum. I know there are owners here. There is also something called an "oven timer" which will turn off the oven when it hits zero....See MoreSuperiore 24" Range Oven Capacity
Comments (7)The Specifications are available here: http://www.superiore.us/-stainless-steel-v75 24 13/64" x 19 57/64" x 20 31/64". They seem to have W D H switched around with the 24" being the height. It does seem to be unusually tall cavity-wise. That's probably where it's gaining the volume. What I did in a very small apartment is used a separate cooktop with oven mounted underneath so I could get a larger oven, and then used an 18" DW. But this may suffice for a NYC apartment. ------- I am putting a 24" vintage Chambers wall oven in my kitchen and I have not received it yet. However, it claims to have a large capacity. However, as opposed to cooking with convection and fans, where you need circulation, it appears that you cram this oven to capacity and keep the door latched. It seems to be a different method. (In any case I am planning on a second larger wall oven or at least a place where one can be placed.)...See MoreWall oven + cooktop versus range questions
Comments (7)My understanding is that wall ovens now vent in the front. Older wall ovens used to vent to the rear. My friend has old Thermador wall ovens which vented to the rear and she needs to replace them and has found that she has not been able to find ones that vent to the rear. She is considering a model that has some kind of catalytic purifier built in which is supposed to minimize grease and smoke venting into the kitchen. I think stoves have ovens that vent to the front as well. When I was researching appliances in anticipation of my current remodel, I read that some people disliked their stoves because if they were using the cook top and the oven simultaneously they would receive blasts of hot air from the front vents. I have no personal experience with this. I changed the configuration of my kitchen when I remodeled and went with an induction cooktop and a Bosch side opening wall oven with microwave drawer below. I haven't noticed any issues with excessive grease or whatever coming out of the oven when I use it....See MoreOven cabinet questions, questions
Comments (6)I do believe you, and I do believe her, but I don't understand the cutout number. How can 23.5 fit in a 23.375 space? The cabinets I'm buying say the box is built with a 5/8" thickness...this could be thicker than 1/2" in something like a Kraftmaid cabinet. I would so like to reconcile the calculation! Lovely thought on the drawers. I actually did have drawers first there, but changed the rollouts thinking that they gave just a bit more vertical space with no horizontal framing having to cross the space. But I agree it's less effort to open a drawer. Regardless, I like the look of the 26" oven depth to break up the line, so will likely switch to drawers and deepen....See Moreandybp
