Comments (16)Center the rug with the fireplace. Take the bookcase out of the left corner of the room and put that in the space between the kitchen and FR, where the console table now sits. Move the sectional down toward the fireplace, (after centering the rug), add an end table to the outside of the chaise part of the sectional. Someone sitting there wonâÂÂt want to move to get a drink off the coffee table. Be sure there is a lamp there as well, to light that corner of the room. Move the armoire to angle in the corner where the sectional was sitting originally. Use it for storage, perhaps add shelving or even a pull-out shelf for a computer center which can be closed up and put away. The piece is very nice, and gives good height to balance the fireplace and high ceilings. For now, try the console on the wall to the right of the fireplace, and place the new flatscreen on that. Later you may prefer a more substanial cabinet, which can hide other components and store DVDs, etc. If you do that, then try the console table behind the part of the sectional that has its back to the kitchen. Add a comfy upholstered chair in the corner, a bit closer to the fireplace, where the armoire was, along with another small side table and lamp....See MoreFamily Room Furniture Help
Comments (1)yeah! you did not wait too long! you should not put your tv over you fp! that is very bad for back and neck and with such variation in size more than one will be affected. most do not recommend a sectional, especially with your ages i think it would be so. the sectional rarely seats as many as you believe it should. noone not even brothers and sisters want to snuggle up close all the time. I recommend a couch and appropriate sized chairs as needed. right now, things like large floor pillows and poufs would probably be best....See MoreFurniture layout for a narrow family room
Comments (9)IMO he gets a recliner thats it for reclining anything else. You need to decide where you are putting the TV. I would plan it on the stair wall but without pictures hard to know. I think all that will fit is a sectional with the long side along the right wall and a short side dividing that space from the DR a bit. Or a longer style sofa with the recliner on one side and either a matching one on the other or one more chair on that side . An easy way to figure furniture size and placement is to draw the room to scale on graph paper then look at furniture and mark all measurements down then come home and cut out the furniture to scale on cardboard and play with the pieces keeping in mind 36” min walkways . But I do think the TV has to have a home first since in a FR it is the focal point ....See MoreFamily Room Furniture Failure--Help with arrangement (very long note)
Comments (39)Move round table toward wall for now so you have a pathway to slider door. Not sure what the person you had helping was thinking but we ALWAYS map out walkways and “transportation” around and between rooms. The basic furniture is too large for your space but this is probably best arrangement for now. At some point, I would put chairs in a media room or game room. Two smaller scale swivel chairs in a complimentary fabric would improve everything. A “gate leg” table behind sofa would serve dual purpose. When leaf is raised 3 could eat a meal. When lowered it would act as a sofa table....See Morevirgilcarter
