Walk-In Shower: Good idea?
Comments (8)We love our 'tub sized' doorless shower as well, although we pushed the wall out several inches beyond where the original alcove tub had been and ended up with a 59' x 52' shower. The extra space isn't necessary to shower but it helps keep the water contained, although we used Schluter Kerdi and Ditra throughout the bathroom to resist any water damage. Our shower is plumbed completely different than yours - the shower head is on the same end as the entry. If you don't want to install a showerhead in the ceiling and you're worried about water spraying toward the entry, one alternative is Grohe's Freehander. It sprays straight down or sideways and is very versatile. We actually replaced a brand new Grohe shower head (which was also great) with one of these and love it. It gives you a lot of options without installing separate fixtures and extra plumbing. For some reason this site isn't allowing me to post a link today but you can go to http://www.freehander.net/ to take a look. In any case, we love our doorless shower and highly recommend installing one. Good luck!...See Morewalk-in bathroom tubs
Comments (16)The air-jet tub in our MBA is 'just my size'. The bottom is 20" X 48"; I can brace my feet. It fills and drains fast; water is warmed; it isn't very noisy; the jets are blown dry after every use. It has built in arm rests and handles to assist with getting in and out. I put a true whirlpool tub -- left over from our teardown -- into another bathroom, but have used it only twice. It takes *forever* to fill and drain; is noisy; needs bleach cleaning to keep mold out of the water jets. The whirlpool is truly *therapeutic*; air jet isn't.) DH prefers the separate shower stall in our MBA. Recovering from hip surgery, I used a seat borrowed from our Senior Center's lending closet with the hand-held spray in the shower. If you want to see a man "at your feet", you could try hip surgery. I was prohibited from bending to dry my legs or put lotion on them. (I have a wonderful DH, which allowed me to recover at home from TWO hip replacements!)...See MoreKids bathroom - replace tub with walk-in shower?
Comments (7)I'm getting rid of both tubs in my Coachella Valley house and replacing them with walk-in showers, but my neighborhood has a lot of retired people in it, and I am not interested in selling the house any time soon. My real estate agent said that no one in Palm Springs takes baths. Also, we plan to rent it for about half of the year, and I was told that guests do not like to take baths. Of course it is different if you live in the house full time. Right now, it is very difficult to step into the master bath/shower because the tub is oval, and there is a lot of edge to clear to get inside....See MoreReplace tub/shower with neoangle vs rectangular walk-in shower
Comments (0)I am planning to remodel my 2nd floor hallway bathroom. The bathroom dimensions are 8 x 7.5 feet, with the entry door at the end of the longer side. I will be converting the tub/shower (30x60) to a walk-in shower. I am in California, where minimum shower opening is 22 inches, and shower doors must open outward only. My options for the shower are as follows: 1) Rectangular shower, approx. 36 x 48 inch interior, with 28 inch pivot door 2) Neoangle shower, approx. 48 x 48 inch full walls with 24 x 24 inch pony walls on the sides, and 28 inch center pivot door 3) Rectangular shower, approx. 32 x 56 inch interior, with sliding glass doors 4) Curved shower, similar to neoangle, but with curved shower enclosure 5) French doors on shower -- but I do not know if this would meet code Any thoughts?
