Which freestanding tub did you buy?

Posted on Bathrooms Forum as well--I am beginning to research freestanding tubs. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Our master bath plan currently has space for approx 6' x 4'. I am hoping to buy a nice, modern looking free standing tub. I'd like to spend between 2K-3K. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the link cncnh. My problem is that the tub will be in front of a bay window which will come down to about the tub rim -- not much room for a wall mount gorgeous as they are. I contacted Vintage Tub and they very helpfully informed me which brands will work with plumbing stubbed through the floor. It looks like I'm in luck. Both the Sunrise Specialty and the Strom Plumbing models should work for me! Thanks again!

The WetStyle f/s tub has a removable tray that sits across the tub. I like numberjunkie's idea of a shelf or ledge behind the tub for placing items and also like the idea of having the shower wall next to the tub tiled half-way up to have a space for installing a grab bar. WetStyle has an optional shelf that surrounds the tub, but I think it would make it more challenging to get in and out of the tub - would need to hop over the shelf. The drop-in tub I was initially considering was 72"x42" but that would likely not fit, so would need to be 72"x36". This weekend I looked at an open house (new construction) in my area that had a drop-in tub with a narrow space for the deck surround (see attached photo). The deck was tiled on the top and on the apron with white subway tile. I noticed that with the narrow deck space (about 2") and the tub overhang, it would be awkward to sit on the edge of the tub and swing my legs in or out of the tub. Wiithout space for a deck that is wide enough to comfortably sit on, ease of entry or exit may come down to depth of the tub and options for placement of grab bars. I purchased a free-standing, composite soaking tub from Devon & Devon (D&D) (they have a clawfoot, but I chose a different style). Two advantages of composite over acrylic: it holds the heat, and scratches or stains can be easily "buffed out" with light sand paper. The D&D tub has a satin-like matte finish. I use Windex to clean it. D&D is pricey, but after trying out tubs for months, it was my favorite, and I was willing to wait several more months for delivery. Other brands I considered: Wetstyle (from Canada), Bain Ultra, Toto, Kohler, Duravit, Blu Bathworks, Mti, Hydrosystems, Axor, and T&L. Zucchetti and V&A tubs were tempting - but I didn't like the look of the exposed drain pipe.

Have you checked out Costco.com? We are getting the New Waves clawfoot, which obviously would not fit with the modern style, but they have several others that are modern and well priced.

Carsonheim - did you buy that Ariel tub?

We want a freestanding but want whirlpool jets (not just air bubbles) as my husband has a bad back and took daily (sometimes more!) baths in our old jetted tub. Found that Ariel model but plumbing supply co is not familiar with the brand.

Hi pal, freestanding baths are more luxurious and good in providing the total comforts when we bath. They are the best in stress relieving. I always prefer to buy the most spacious tub.

Also Victoria & Albert -- Ios. We ordered it with out an overflow so that we could have really deep water -- which sits in a basin with a floor drain under the tub -- great tub, uses lots (and lots) of water! If you get one of these big soaking tubs, make sure you plan for appropriate plumbing for faster filling.
