There really aren't any other than from an aesthetic point of view, so long as your vanity is already in, and the toilet can sit flat. But I wouldn't accept what you've described anyway. That's BS.

I'm guessing the floor would be destroyed in the ripping out process. I'm predicting it would be quite the battle over who would pay to replace anything that's damaged....
Thank you for weighing in Bill! The only thing that won't sit flat will be the wood tub surround. My husband is going to ask them to tear it out tomorrow. I think because the installers didn't put the heat mat under the vanity, they didn't bother to "mock it up" for the height difference so the rest of the floor was done in an effort to slope up into the new height.

I don't have any words of advice but just wanted to acknowledge how frustrated you must feel! Especially since you mentioned to the tiler as the work was in progress that the variants slope was unacceptable. Well, probably better to fix it now than have it bother you as years go by. Good luck!

Rookie, if your husband told them 3 times it needed to be fixed and they didn't do it, I'd push for this fix to be at their cost and not accept anything else. I hope you haven't paid them yet so you have some leverage.

Not only shouldn't they be paid, but it should be coming out of their pocket for all materials to replace that floor, including the heat mats which won't be cheap. Document everything. Take pictures of the installation, including macro pics of the spaces under the straightedge.

I, too, was once the victim of a bad tile job in our new basement bathroom several years ago - so I do understand the anxiety of deciding what is "good enough". On this forum after I posted pics, Bill and others said something that resonated - as long as they can do poor tile jobs like that and still get paid 100% of their money and move on, they will continue to do so. Then I realized that if I bought a $50K car and the doors didn't line up, I wouldn't accept it - and they would have to fix it or give me a new car - period. What is the difference?

In the end, the tile was done and redone THREE times at the installer's expense. Natural stone ain't cheap. And guess what? I love my bathroom and am happy I stood my ground every time I walk in there. My GC for the basement remodel no longer uses that tile installer so maybe I saved someone else some heartache down the line.
