"Grout Once", on another forum some pros have had good luck with it, others have had lousy results. Mostly blotchy colors. Is it the product? The installer? I can't answer that. I will say that if you're using a basic portland cement based grout you might have good luck with these additives. But if you're using a specialty grout, I'd not want to add 3rd-party additives to a highly formulated specialty grout. Personally, I don't use any of the additives. As to sanded versus unsanded, it's pretty much standard to use unsanded grout on grout joints less than 1/8" wide. Sanded for 1/8" wide and over. "The tile store is telling me I need to use sanded grout on any tile with grout lines over 1/16 or the individual tiles will eventually pop out." Thank goodness they only sell the tile and they don't install it. Your installer is correct if he has concerns about sanded scratching the marble and glass. There are ways to use sanded with scratchable materials, but the small grout line trumps the issue anyway. Use unsanded. My opinion about the "Grout Once"? I'd ask your tile installer. If he's up for giving it a try, that's fine. But if you "force" him to use it and you have issues with the grout down the road, it's on you.

Well, I am no tile expert, but we just had our bathroom tiled and we had the installer use Spectralock PRO epoxy grout and our tile all had nominal 1/16 inch seams. (He said that for the beveled tile, the seam is closer to 1/8 inch at the widest point -- I think our floor tile was beveled and our wall tile had straight edges so was a true 1/16 inch.) We haven't started using the bathroom yet, but the tile looks great. Sorry, I don't seem to have taken a picture of the finished tile yet!

OK, so what makes something officially "shower floor tile" Anything that's got a little bit of a texture to it, and is 4" or less. The girl at the tile store told me that I could use my AO greenwich village subway tiles on the top and front of the bench, but my contractor said no- I need to use my shower floor tile on the top of the bench (which I really don't want to do). What do you think? Your contractor doesn't know what he's talking about. The subway tiles will work fine, even on top of the bench. Also, my contractor said I needed to use some stone rather than tile for my shower curb. Thoughts? Okay-- I somewhat agree with him on this. It's not necessary-- you CAN use tile, but especially if you're getting a glass enclosure, the use of a marble threshold will give your glass guy a much better surface to work with. I won't tell my customers they HAVE to use the threshold curb top, but I will recommend it. Concerning the bench, though, Lisa just gave you about the best advice anyone could, with respect to proper construction and WATERPROOFING. Get past that, and the rest is a cake walk.

You will get aprox 50 Square per gallon of Hydro ban if you apply it over Green EBoard or cement Board on the rough side. You will get closer to 60 Square feet of coverage over the smooth side of Green EBoard. Can you measure out the exact square footage and what you plan for a shower base and the walls. The Kerdi Drain is an excellent product but a bit on the pricey side at $130.00 Nobel makes a sweet little adapater piece for a regular drain $12.00 that can give you a liquid tie in point.
