Calling Bill Vincent (& other tile experts) for tile advice!
Comments (7)Any standard penetrating sealer will do it. What he's talking about is a topcoat sealer. Tell him you want a penetrating sealer-- like Miracle's 511 Impregnator or Stone Tech's Impregnator Pro. You DON'T want Tile Lab's products from HD. They're Junk. Same with the ones from Lowes (can't remember the name off hand, but it's the only sealer they sell) If you can't find either of them locally (usually at a tile showroom), the Stone Tech products can be ordered through John Bridge's website....See MoreCalling all dish experts
Comments (27)I have a set of white porcelain that I love. I bought them piece-by-piece at Marshall's 20 years ago, and there isn't a chip on any of them. Food looks beautiful on white plates. I also have a mismatched set of colored plates and bowls - reds, purples, green, orange, yellow - that I set out deliberately to collect whenever I saw a piece or two on sale. I love to use those with certain meals. Both sets are mixed in my kitchen dish cupboard, and I pair every meal with the right color dish. Part of the fun of cooking is presentation for me, and I love setting a pretty table. I think you'll love having white dishes....See MoreCalling all Ben. Moore white experts
Comments (27)Is it possible to pick a white for cabinets and trim without knowing your wall color yet?! My countertops are Caesarstone Nougat and my appliances are white! Yes. The countertops and appliances are major components in the overall "envelope" of the space you're creating. Use those as the benchmarks for choosing a color of white for the cabinets and trim throughout the whole house. To make it easier, just use the same color on the cabinets and trim. I'd use the countertops for the #1 component to determine which color of white is the right one. Appliances second most important. Becuase odds are the appliances will be replaced way before the countertops. The cabinet color/countertop color relationship is more important and more permanent. If you have a well-color-coordinated envelope of major/permanent elements, it will be a harmonious foundation to build on and it will also inform your furniture and decor choices going forward....See MoreCalling all Marble Experts!
Comments (4)Listen to the folks above! I would only use porcelain in a shower and bathroom floor. A lot of users on this forum have had troublesome results with marble installations. One issue is rust developing in the tile due to iron inclusions in the marble, not seen until it rusts due to moisture, after use. Marble is a beautiful stone, but soft and porous. It etches too. Another issue, is finding out the deflection rating of your floor system. If it's too low, you can't do stone successfully. The stone will crack due to the bending of the floor joist. If you are on concrete than this isn't an issue. If you have a wood floor system, you will need to know the length, width, and spacing of your floor joists. Porcelain can tolerate a more flexible floor than stone. Porcelain is a stronger material and is way less porous, so it's much more suited, IMO, for use in the bathrooms of homes. Do you know how a shower pan is built? How the walls of a shower are built? Do you know the materials that should never be used in a shower? You can try the John Bridge tile forum for more technical information. You need to learn all there is to tiling before taking on this project. They are very helpful over there, but also very professional and thus a very tough crowd when it comes to their profession and workmanship....See Moreplumkrazy
