BR almost finished; pls help with shower enclosure decision
Comments (22)Lauren -- thanks much, we are trying to get our DIY/pro mix to "take" in our 6 x 10.5ish room! Agree we may end up with 1 fixed if budget constraints get in the way, but seems like it'd be a shame. 1) Window credit goes to tiler, though we made his job harder by forcing him to design from the full run of 6 x 6 tiles between the window. All cuts relate to that, for better or worse. 2) Yep, leaded glass -- I found/fell in love with the salvage doors years back (not in my house, alas) and basically designed the bathroom around 'em. Fell a little less in love with them after spending hours using progressively more toxic cleaners on the decades of mineral etc deposits before sending them off to the cabinetmaker. And of course after priming and painting (and painting) the cab boxes. But I'm feeling the love return, ha. 3) Oh, glass tile would have been too easy, ha. You know I love my aqua iridescent glass mosaic backsplash, but Mr Vix and I both feel in love with a ceramic liner topped with oyster shell slivers. Luckily the bath is small and our field tile was rock bottom in price, sigh. HEY MARISA -- No need to worry about being lonely while all others finish -- we just went to install our sink and the GC's plumber didn't seem to take our vanity shelf configuration into account, so we'll probably have to call (another!) pro for help. No running water for meeeeeeee though it's nice to have it out of the den (though its mirror needs to join it!):...See MoreFireplace..eyesore or asset? counter/color scheme/ design help pl
Comments (28)Thanks so much to everyone. Romy718, your room is beautiful!! You do not need to wait for rugs & accessories to know that, it looks great and the colors are so pretty and work great together. Thanks for showing me. And I need to go on back to the backsplash thread and start looking up info on those tiles. I think the one that you said you were using in your own kitchen is my favorite...is it ok if our houses end up looking like cousins?! gpraceman, someday I hope to replace the slate hearth with soapstone. That was my plan for this remodel but budget got tight and we decided to just scrub down the existing slate hearth, my GC put some sort of sealer/enhancer on it; and we painted the shelf White dove same color as our trim. I'm not crazy about it, I really want a thicker distressed wood mantle, but it'll do for now. nyse2502, first, thank you Im so glad to hear you like my fireplace! This thread is from several months ago, in the meantime I had several other threads going round and round on what countertop material to choose. In the end I went away from the Sea Pearl, the Jet Mist, the Steel gray... and ended up with a Calcutta marble on my island that I love and a very plain almost solid gray Silestone on my perimeter which I am really happy with. It was a great solution for me. I got a (relatively) small little chunk of a gorgeous fragile material that I love, and then I have an extremely durable uncomplicated attractive counter everywhere else that I don't have to worry about. I admit to being totally overwhelmed and absorbed with my own reno that I haven't had tons of time to be looking at all the threads on here so maybe I missed it, but have you posted pics of your whole house reno? Sounds like a huge job, congrats on being done! I'll post a picture of my updated fireplace. This room still needs a lot of work...a rug, something on other side of fireplace, different mirror or something else on mantle, a screen for fp...but you get the idea. Thanks for all the support on this thread!...See MoreChandelier options for MCM-ish/modern/post and beam - pls help choose
Comments (61)thanks, cawaps. And you're right - I just re-read the thread and it did get a few votes! Deciding on a chandelier took so long and I appreciate all the feedback and thoughts I got here. Annie Deighnaugh ...Would you mind sharing how you are lighting that soffitt? Not sure if you are still looking for cove lighting, but we used Alloy Led tape lights that are housed in a light diffusing track. We looked at a lot of options, and this seemed to be the best and most affordable option. It wasn't inexpensive, but some of the cove lights our designer and architect recommended were quite expensive, and we needed a lot of lighting as the light soffitt runs all through the house. We also used them as under counter lights. There are some options that changed colors, but decided to go with just the warm white....See MorePls help! Me vs. spouse... Engineered wood vs. tile
Comments (14)I agree it won't look dated. Everyone I've ever talked to that went the wood look tile route is very happy with their choice. It's partly what convinced me to choose the tile over wood. Every day I love this tile more and more. It cleans up so nicely, always looks perfect, and I have zero stress about it. We installed it in our entire first level as I wanted one flooring throughout. It was an agonizing decision (wood vs tile) and I made the right choice with the tile. My cousin ( a plastic surgeon in the San Francisco Bay Area) just bought a new multi million dollar home and also used wood look tile throughout. I think a floor as gorgeous and functional as this is here to stay....See Moreontariomom
