amerec vs mr steam vs thermasol steam shower
Comments (98)I don't understand the last post to this thread? Thermasol offers a 5-year replacement warranty on all their controllers. Why would you pay to replace it? Maybe you had it more than 5 years? If so, then it's too bad it failed but how long do you expect it to last? I doubt you could expect a car to last reliably with no problems longer than 5 years, so why expect that of your steam shower. I have a PRO-395 that I installed 14 months ago. It just failed tonight. Not sure if it is the controller board or the heating element, but it stopped producing steam. Called tech support and they are shipping me a new replacement unit tomorrow and paying for the install, all at no cost. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk to them about the fact that it failed so soon. They are supposedly the best and charge a premium for their product. I am curious how they will explain that it failed so soon. Will update this post if they say anything interesting. Update: Spoke to them this morning and they are sending me a new unit, and pay for installation charge. One other thing. Someone in the tread above talked about making their shower with a 10 ft ceiling. Don't do that! That is just dumb, and will affect the experience of a good steam. If you ever want to make your steam shower bigger, do it in the length or width but never in the height. My house has 10 ft. ceilings, but my shower has a 7.5 ft up to an 8 ft. ceiling and that is plenty high enough. The 7.5 ft part is over the bench so the fact that it is lower there makes no difference because you are sitting down....See MoreHelp me choose shower, steam shower module, or DIY custom steam shower
Comments (6)Creative Tile, I also have heard good things.....my plan has totally changed, you can search my name and find my design thread. I'm now doing a 48" neo angle. I want to go USG because they make the custom pan with the drain where I want it, and trimming these pans will obviously create some strange aesthetics at change of plane w/ wall. Problem is, no one wants to sell me one! Here in NJ, only distributor within 90 minutes are HD stores. I call them, and they don't know the custom pan exists. Local tile guy has Wedi, but very pricey, and it doesn't seem ideal for a neoangle curb, also no custom pan. I'm assuming you may have a connection with someone who will sell me one? Online USG email support for neo angle sent me back to uninformed home depot, and a general instruction which doesn't address how to wrap the 135 deg. angle. I'm going to call them one last time, if not I'll take my chances with kerdi membrane with a mud deck. 1 question on the USG product...if i go with the new ultralight foam, does it require full membrane, or just the seams? If it requires full membrane, should I just use fiberrock as it will probably be much cheaper? Any ideas how to do the 135 neoangle curb, I'm probably just going to borrow kerdi methods over at johnbridge, and use the sealant for any questionable corners . Thanks so much for your help!...See MoreBathroom reno configuration: shower placement HELP
Comments (9)I have put laundries in kitchens, but my personal favorite is in the bedroom or near the clothes closet. I am lazy that way. Older architecture often discounted closet storage or the latest indoor plumbing of the day but favored larger rooms from which I would steal space by throwing up a wall and creating a concealed utility area. You really have to get out of the box sometimes. You also have to deal with 4x4 studs and different wall construction, but you can go crazy in the attic running utility supply wherever you wish. Drainage is another matter, and if I could not tie into existing, I have gone right out the exterior wall. Wish I could be of more service, The only out of the box Idea I can muster right now regarding that door / w/d placement is a type of hanging rolling door used on barns up in snow country. Mount the support to the ceiling and let the door slide over in front of the w/d. This is alignment not currently on the plan, and would require a slightly larger shower toward the interior of the room to catch spray and drip off the bottom of the door. Also kinda cool in that custom glass door design kinda way. The door could easily slide into something of a channel, and would work as if it were a shower curtain rather than a perimeter sealed door unit..cr lawerence has many types of glass fittings. Some drilling of the glass might be required....See MoreShower Head Configuration Help Please
Comments (0)I am in California which does not permit multiple water sources in a shower at the same time. This means that if I want to use a hand shower I would have to physically turn it on and off - i.e. divert water from the regular shower head to the hand held shower head. I have changed my old tub/shower combo into a larger shower in the master bath with a bench at the short end opposite the short end holding the shower head. I had intended to put a hand held shower in the middle of the long wall so that I would have access to the hand held shower while both standing or when using the bench. I had not envisioned a scenario where I would have to stop the flow of water from the shower head above my head, turn a valve and then use the hand held shower - and reverse process if I wanted to stand under the shower head again. This seems completely dysfunctional in terms of how I shower (or showered) with my old hand held shower head that I lifted from its bracket when I wanted hand held functionality and reattached seamlessly when I wanted water to stand under - i.e. when washing hair I swap between hand held and standing under at various points. So I am now thinking that functionally the way to handle it is to have some kind of slide bar shower at the short end which functions seamlessly as both a regular and hand held shower and a SEPARATE Hand held only shower in the middle for which I would have to turn off the main shower head. I would utilize this hand held only functionality when I was doing stuff at the bench end. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue - if so, what did you do? It seems like a pretty common issue - at least in California. It seems as though other people would want dual functionality in a shower but perhaps I am missing something as physically having to turn a faucet to utilize the different functionalities seems awkward and dysfunctional as one would be left without any water at all while the water diverted. I need oil rubbed bronze finishes if that enters into the equation of a solution....See Moredrjoann
