GE Monogram Double Oven third repair in 2 years!
Comments (5)We've had the single Electrolux Icon oven for > 6 years now. It bakes great, both fans, convection and cooling, are VERY Quiet, and it has been trouble free. So is it's "Matching Speed Oven" which sees a ton of use, a lot of Microwaving with it but also Speed cooking as well as regular and convection baking. I had my first problem with my 48 " built in & paneled Jenn-air Fridge, last Sunday. It has digital controls and readouts, The fridge always reads 37 & the freezer "0" "F" I opened the fridge and it read 39 & 4, I thought that strange, but wife had cleaned out the freezer so I figgers I just check it again in an hour or so. I did, now it read 40 and 8--- and I could actually hear something runnning in the fridge (That's the 1st sound I've heard out of it in 6 years)! OH OH. I took the top off that covers the condenser and the area where the water filter is & the rest of the works for it, I had cleaned the condenser the day before. Shortly it is at good old 37 and 0 again---hmmmm???? So I puts that top back and on and looks at it, hmmmm it's sitting funny and blocking air, turns out one of the clips on the side had got bent so the top wasn't sitting in the proper slots correctly, straightened it put the top back on and all has been well, no sounds and good old 37F and 0 F. So I really like those digital readouts, also the fact that there is some kind of "Protection System" that senses if the area where the guts are is too hot, It then shuts the variable speed compressor to minimum speed and speeds up the condenser fan to max (It was the fan I heard). So I hope a little of my luck runs your way, We could not be happiier with the choices we made cept for a bad choice of a conventional smooth electric cooktop----since replaced with Elux Icon Induction cooktop---We Luv It!!!! Comments (10)Reprising this thread, because I have the same question. I have a 30-inch Miele double wall oven (Masterchef self-cleaning) that I really like. However, I managed to break/crack the outer glass on the bottom oven door, and have been searching for a replacement. The best quote I have found so far for just the replacement door glass portion is $750, from Miele, via my trusted local appliance repair guy. He routinely services Miele, and said that even though he is used to Miele's high prices for replacement parts, this quote just about gave him "a heart attack." I have looked on-line and on eBay, and have also been having some conversations with a retired Miele repair person whom I met through eBay (very helpful!). I have thought about trying to have a local glass place replace the tempered door glass itself -- but that would assume that my local repair guy can remove and then re-install the door assembly, and that the local glass place can replace the glass (and with appropriate glass that will resist the self-cleaning cycle), and that the total cost of doing so would save significantly on the $750-plus-installation already quoted by official Miele folks. So, I was thinking of "making virtue of necessity" and replacing this bottom oven with a Wolf combi-steam unit. (Should fit into the space without significant problems, because the Wolf combi-steam's dimensions are enough smaller than the dimensions of half of the Miele 30-inch double oven.) But is that possible? Looks like maybe not... But a girl can always hope, right? Thanks for any advice you can give! (ETA: I do hate the thought of just giving up on these ovens, but I also am irate at the thought of being gouged by Miele! For what it's worth, the ovens are 13 years old, and do suffer from some problems with heating consistency, although I am able to work around that pretty well. Also, the roast probes melted, early on, due to poor design, and I never replaced them.)...See MoreRepair, Don't Replace, Old Wood Windows
Comments (154)Mary, Are you referring to window restoration or just sealing up some existing windows? The two are going to be very different type professionals. If it it just sealing up some exterior trim on windows, a decent painter can do that. If its window restoration, that is a different ball of wax. Window restoration is a very niché marketplace. The best thing to do is start with a Google area search near your home and especially in those areas that are more heavily concentrated in older homes. Next would be to ask around any of the historic districts that are in your area and see who they might have a list for. Hope this helps....See More30 inch electric slide in range replacement - double oven, induction?
Comments (6)There are a number of induction threads if you do a search for the word, they should pop up. I traded my electric for a Samsung Chef induction double oven with warming drawer. The drawer is really low and since it's just DH and me, we don't turn it on and use it for storage. I think it bakes unevenly, although it has two baking "modes" and although we use the small top oven, which fits a smaller roasting pan, we rarely need both ovens. It is convertible to one oven. But I would never go back to an electric top over an induction. Never. As I said in another thread, I've actually been using a Tovala counter top combi-steam oven because I love the way it cooks but it is a one or two person appliance....See More- 11 years ago
