We struggled with this and finally did decide to do wood throughout all the bedrooms. As a cost savings measure we "almost" went with carpet in the kids (upstairs) bedrooms, but I finally decided I just wasn't happy with the choice. The only rooms that will have carpet in our house (except for possibly the basement to be finished at a later date) are our media room and master closet. The media room because it seems there is always someone lying in the floor in there and it seemed more "comfy" and our master closet because we transition from wood in the bedroom to tile in the bath and I didn't know if it made sense to transition back to wood again. Probably a mistake now that I think about it... Hmmm. Wonder what has actually been ordered. j.

We went with wood throughout (carpet in media room, tile in bathrooms) and are very happy after more than 1-1/2 years.

The childrens' bedrooms are bamboo and the rest of the living rooms are oak or walnut. IMHO, you cannot beat hardwoods for cleaning (getting rid of dust).

I agree with betsy_anne, The thought of what my boys could do to the carpet in their rooms and what might be left to grow in the spills they inevitably will make made me cringe and was a huge factor in getting me to cough up the extra money.

Second house we are building within 2 years... went with hardwood in first, and realized it was worth that extra money to go with it again. I have always had the kids rooms carpeted and they ALWAYS look terrible after 6 months.

We got very cleanable carpet, and in addition, got medium colors for showing less dirt. (Variegated colors in the boys' room so spots look like they belong!) We wanted the bedrooms quieter and cozier for sitting and playing on the floor, etc. They are all upstairs, so any shoes still on should lose the worst of their dirt by the time they get there, and there is a strict no-food or drinks rule for upstairs. Each room has a different type or color, so if we have to replace one or two rooms after a few (hopefully several) years, it shouldn't be a big deal.

I am using carpet in the bedrooms because I think it is quieter. Hardwood floors in a bedroom just don't seem very quiet and cozy to me.....carpet seems to absorb noise better. It's a hard choice though....I really hate carpet.

We do have hardwood floors in our bedrooms--and all through the house with the exception of the bathrooms, laundry, and basement which does have carpet and vinyl. Ours is Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) which I love but would probably reconsider in light of recent info the certified woods really don't certify any protection or sustainable harvest and BC is supposed to be one of the worst. Sigh. Love the hardness and the beauty anyway.

When my son got sick in the middle of the night and puked over the edge of the bunkbed (can you say splatter?) I was really glad we don't have carpet in the bedrooms.

We have major allergy issues and I am glad to know that when I clean my floors they really are clean.

We do have some throw rugs for comfort. Most of them are machine washable.

The cold feet thing has really not been an issue. We wear socks and all enjoy a bit of sliding Tom Cruise style.

We are planning hardwood in our bedrooms. The home we are in now has carpet and no matter how much you clean it's tough to get that area next to the baseboards to stay clean.

right... vomit. my kids are four and five years old. they have done the vomit thing in the middle of the night before and i must assume this could happen a few more times before they leave for college. hard wood it is!

we're using cork in the playroom/bonus room. i don't really love carpet and the cork seems cozy while still being easy to clean. wow... no carpet in this house at all! well, none so far. is it possible?

I did wood through all of them. If we ever have a child I figured I can buy large enough area rugs for not too much to almost make it a full carpet to protect the floors, but still be able to throw away if it becomes to worn or soiled. It also gives the oppurtunity for changing things up as you wish too.

We are putting in either wood or stone throughout the entire house we are building. I have cats and boys and both throw up enough that I'm tired of scrubbing carpets. We have wood now in our family room, dining, kitchen and breakfast area and I swear they all run to the carpet in the bedrooms to throw up! Plus my husband is an allergist and he said if he talks the talk at work (telling patients to get rid of carpet) he better walk the walk at home. We are putting rugs that we can wash in my boys bedrooms.

We used all hardwoods in all the bedrooms. No regrets 3 years later.

Love our all hardwood house. We don't even have thresholds. It's *smooth*. Central vac without beater bar is fine for the floors and the low-pile orientals. SO easy to clean.

I hate carpeting. It's *never* really clean once it's installed. Rugs can go out to be washed. I don't even like most 'window treatments'.

Pets absolutely DO seek carpet or rugs to barf on! I think they want to steady themselves rather than slip around on a bare surface while they bring up the *whatever*.

We originally were going to put hardwood in the bedrooms and ended up doing carpet. The first day we moved in, no wait BEFORE we moved in, DD got something pink (I still do not know what it was) on the carpet. I regret putting in carpet. We already have stains from the dog and even the cat. No matter how hard I try to keep the tile floors clean I don't care what anyone says, there is dirt on them. The dirt tracks into the bedrooms and the carpet looks like...you know what! LOL!

DH wanted carpet because it thought it would make the room to cold in the winter if we went with wood. DD wanted carpet also and why I just didn't stick to my guns and do the wood is beyond me. I could have just gotten her a fluffy area rug and I am sure she would have loved it. If I were to do it over I would say wood for sure in the bedrooms. DH and DD won out on that one and to tell you the truth I think he secretly wishes we had done wood but he will never admit it :-)I give it one year and we will be ripping it out and putting in wood (at least that is my secret wish!)
