ben - yes if it has or you add and appliance cord to power the disposal 86- call Mountain Plumbing and ask if they still sell the buttons as spare parts, other wise you should get the ISE brushed nickel as the others I know in SS all cost more than the "kits" in the link.

Sorry to take so long to answer, Andrea. We were in a "camp" (cottage) in the Adirondacks for a week. (Where, BTW, I cooked on an older Tappan gas range that made me appreciate my induction cooktop more than ever, and where there was no disposal or dishwasher at all. And the faucet's side spray was missing. That's as rustic as I get.) In any case, there is no silicone showing around my switch. I had a 1" hole drilled (to accommodate that adaptor that didn't work in granite), but the switch is a little bigger than 1", so my GC managed to glue it on. 3/4" hole would be easier, I think. I wonder if Waste King has figured out how to put these in granite yet. I think the actual instructions were for a small hole - maybe it was 3/8 or 5/8". The way the instructions read in 2011, it seemed that they were assuming a solid surface counter where you could get a small hole, and if you had an existing 1" hole in that solid surface, then they had the adaptor. But they didn't seem to think about how to put them in 3 cm granite, where it's difficult to drill a small hole. Even 3/4" may be tough. Ask your fabricator how small a hole he can drill.

For Zarco: We've had our air switch for only a couple weeks but so far I'm loving it. It is easy to keep clean, I just wipe it down along with the rest of the countertop. We got ours at Lowe's for about $60, and that included a package with white, chrome, and satin nickel finishes. Insinkerator brand and it works fine with our Kitchen Aid disposal. For illinigirl: I've seen air switches mounted on the front of the cabinet frame as an alternative, but that's probably not a better choice than countertop for your situation. I don't see why it couldn't be placed inside the sink base cabinet, or even in the flip-out tray in front of the sink, if that would help. Definitely something you should discuss with your GC and/or plumber. I believe there is plenty of flexibility, just need to think outside the box. Good luck!

I'm at the point I need to decide where I want the switch (son is doing the job) and I forgot about the air switch until I came across this thread. We made my island larger and added a prep sink and he can wire it but the air switch looks neater. He says he just plans to put a regular switch on the front of the cabnet right under the counter since we don't have a hole in the granite for it. He said " why waste the money on the air switch?" Is he correct??
