brand spankin' new master bath pics...

So we moved into our new home last weekend after a long, but rewarding build. The place is a mess, but we're making progress one room at a time...I posted kitchen pics yesterday...here are a few of the tiny master bath. It hasn't been decorated, but we're very happy with how it came out. Thanks to everyone here for all the good advice and suggestions throughout.

Ours is a Craftsman style home, and my husband had two requirements for the mst bath: walk-in shower, and as much natural slate as possible. I think he succeeded! We have separate vanities - same sinks and faucets, but completely diff styles and countertops. I used the two granites we used in the kitchen, and Scott got soapstone. We basically gave our cabinet builder free reign in cabinet-door and drawer looks, as well as designing custome surrounds for each mirror. There's a separate potty room and walk-in closet on the opposite end of the bath from the shower. It's probably hard to tell since the tile wall behind the tub is the main shower wall, but the shower is quite large, and is everything Scott wanted! I'm not sure how to post multiple pics like the talented ladies above, so I'll just link you to the photo album w/all the shots in it. Hope this inspires! There are diamond bits for dremel-type tools. I've only had to R&R grout once, that was years ago, and that's what I used. The bit I use looked like a smooth drill bit covered with diamonds. Maybe $10 each, I use 3 of them. I ran the dremel down the grout lines holding it at a 30-45 degree angle. I ran the bit down one edge of the grout line, then the other side. You don't need to get the joints spanking clean, but do be careful you don't nick up and roughen the edges of the tiles or (egad) run the bit across the face of the glazing. It's very very dusty work. Very dusty. The sooner you get on it the better due to cure strength timelines of cementitious products. The bits I used looked somewhat like this "7122" bit. It doesn't look like the exact bit I used, but it's pretty close. I caught this link too, dremel has an attachment kit and bit for grout removal. Their "569" bit is carbide instead of diamond. catkin: Wow! I can't believe it, but I DO know the answer to your question about the paneled wall! They actually used both: they used 1/2" high grade on the wall with the towel rack, that extends from the shower. It has the applied mouldings. They had to use the 1/4" behind the toilet. If they had used the thicker, I believe they said that it would make the toilet sit too far away from the wall, and the drain/bolts wouldn't match up, if that makes sense (I am probably saying it wrong...I understand it, but I hope you can figure out what I'm talking about). I don't know what "luan" is. The 1/4" was thin enough to not compromise the position of the toilet. We kept it simpler behind the toilet, with just a top moulding, since the area is so tight there. I agree that I wouldn't put a lot $$ in this because the return won't be there. Pulling the paper down and a nice paint job plus a new light bar and maybe a new ceiling light (can't remember if you showed that) would really do wonders. It is a nice size and arrangement. On the shower surround, if you want to go that far to get rid of the brassy gold, go with another framed one to save money. They are much cheaper and they don't have the yuck traps in the doors anymore. You might be able to tape the one you have off and repaint it while you have the walls bare. You could always scrape the glass to get any paint off of it. There are some really nice metal finish paints out there that could update it. An oil rubbed bronze would be great but then you would need to change out the faucets. You can also paint your cabinet hardware! Just attach the knobs to a large piece of cardboard and spray paint. I would not go to the expense of a frameless shower door. Many don't like them.

LOVE the bathroom!! Just my style....as I'm looking for a new floor, what is your flooring... is it real slate? It looks wonderful!

Thanks for the kind words. Designing the space was tough, but now that it's done, it's one of my favorite rooms in the house. The tile is all Daltile Continental Slate, less porous and easier to maintain than the real thing. We used 12"x12" set at a 45 on the floor, 6"x6" on the tub deck, and 6"x6" in the shower (floor, walls, shelf, and ceiling). The glass shower door hasn't been delivered yet, so we're using the main hall bath this week, but I'm a bit worried about maintaining the honed carrera vanity top. It's beautiful, but the stuff etches and stains just by looking at it...

The rough dimensions are 14' x 6'10". The shower has 42" sides, the vanity is 65", and the tub insert is 72"x42" (plus the deck). Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks! we have a similar sized space (or will if we take a couple of more feet from another room). I don't know exact dimensions, and I have been at a loss to figure out how to do a renovation (we'd be adding a shower), I think your plan works so well with the narrow width.

Do you happen to have a better pic of your vanity lights? It's hard to see them and I can tell from the top chrome bar that they are similar to what I am looking for. Great job by the way!

Your bathroom is lovely! We are in the throes of planning our second bathroom renovation, to be started asap. Can you tell me about the vanity? We are planning a similar look, with beadboard. We did not have a vanity in the first bathroom we did, so I don't know anything yet about where to find them.

Hi and sorry for the delay...we're still unpacking and it's been a loooong weekend...

The tub is Kohler Sunward (6') - It was cheap, but it's quite nice.

Vanity is by Aristocraft. Also cheap and utilitarian, but functional. Standard chrome hardware.

Exact inside dimensions of the shower are 39 Â½" for the perpendicular sides, 22 Â¼" for the opposing short sides, and 24 Â¼" for the door opening. ItÂs typical stick framing with wonder board walls, a copper pan, mud base, and Continental Slate tile.

Here are some more pics of the sconces. I donÂt know anything about themÂthe ones we initially wanted ended up being out of stock and discontinued, so I picked these on a whimÂcan ask my lighting rep though, if youÂre interested. TheyÂre brushed nickel and weÂre very happy with themÂmuch nicer than the first ones we selected.

I'm in LUV with your bathroom. I have to have those lights :) if you have time to find out the brand that would be so helpful. They are fantastic looking and those faucets - how do you like the bancroft ones? I am thinking of getting them.
