Using Ditra for laundry room floor to reduce vibration
Comments (2)judy, as mentioned the Ditra will not help much if any with vibrations....and if the unit is level the vibrating sounds you hear are actually from the thin sheet metal covering...We recently switched to front loading machines and LOVE them....ours are however in the basement on a concrete floor...so no worries about vibrations from the floor like upstairs on wood....but as I said what I noticed is that at the high spin rates these run at it actually flexes the thin sheet metal coveing the top and sides of the unit acting almost like a stereo speaker!!! when running the washer side panel being only an inch from the dryer side panel actually causes the dryer to vibrate by pushing the air into it....so to reduce viration noise its better to look at muffling the sheet metal covering with a heavy blanket covering like they use for moving furniture rather than spending all that time and $$$ on flooring materials when thats the least of your cause....hope that helps....See MoreDitra vs. hardibacker for tile floor
Comments (7)Ok, great info.: time vs cost vs elbow grease... But what I also want to know is how long does this product last. If I'm going to do a job, I'm going to do it right and it's going to last. I don't care about the time, cost, elbow grease if I know that my finished product will last 5 to 10 years longer. If that is the case, then I will spend more, work longer, and put more elbow grease into the job. Is there an average life expectancy? Any follow up data being accumulated? So that I can add this 4th variable into the mix? I really like your other information though so don't think that I'm being negative. I've searched the internet to answer my lifespan questions, and have come up empty handed. Ditra/Hardibacker I really don't care. Warranty's are great, but anyone w/ hands on experience and personal testimonies concerning lifespan? Thank you Josh...See Moreinstalling schluter ditra over vinyl tile over basement concrete
Comments (7)Using ditra you can go right over it, just follow ditra guidelines and you will never have a problem especially when existing vinyl tiles installed on concrete. Keep in mind that Ditra allows dissimilar materials to act independently of each other this why the tile or grout will never crack even if there is differential movement between the subfloor and the tile. We used ditra over asbestos tiles installed in the kitchen about 6 yrs ago over an old wood floor in a house that was built in the 20s and there was no issues then and there is no issues a year ago when I was there doing a deck repair. Good luck...See MoreDitra or no Ditra
Comments (4)OK...first thing first. What is your deflection rating for your subfloor? How thick is the TOTAL thickness of BOTH layers of subfloor (yah...2 layers is what I want to see...not one)? How far apart are the joists? You measure on centre btw. What is on the floor right now (please don't tell me carpet....please oh please don't say carpet)?...See MoreAvanti Tile & Stone / Stonetech
